Our caravan storage backs onto farmland and I must admit I was worried, we have a sonic repellent (worth a try?). One thing we had been told is that we have two dogs and the smell of them may keep the mice away, does anyone that's had damage have dogs? Wonder if this is true.

I lived out in the wilds once in a place infested with mice, a dog was useless, the sonic doo-dah didn't affect them much and the problem with poison is they go and die in totally inaccessible places and then stink.

Traps work but can be a bit gory, I kid you not a cat that is a half-decent mouser certainly works.

True but it will put the mice off too

A half-decent mouser that can use a litter tray might be best though.

The bad winter drives the buggers indoors by any means possible.

Had mice in the garage last year a pal recommended to use the old style sprung loaded traps using a piece of rowntrees strawberry jelly straight out of the packet as bait.It worked a treat ,caught 5 the first week and another 2 the second week not pleasent killing them but effective.

We have had field mice in our garager (not integral thank god, or I would have been doing my nut).  They chewed through the roof of our porch awning - they have teeth like razor blades and can do a lot of damage. Put down poison and traps and got rid but we keep a careful check in there now and periodically lay down poison.

We then bought one of the battery operated sonic things off ebay for the van as it is stored on a farm and others there have had problems with mice.  So far it's worked a treat, touch wood.

I once knew someone who had a static van that was totally trashed by mice during the course of the winter months.  They made nests in the seats, chewed through pipes and electric cables and the place STANK, I mean really bad.  Cost hundreds to put it right.
