We use a halogen heater for the awning when it gets a bit colder during summer. It's nice to sit round, as long as you are in direct line of the 'light' you can feel the heat.
Think of it as a kind of electric fireplace and you'll get the idea. I think our's is essential and comparitively light compared to an oil filled rad.
