I went to a discussion on Smart Water, it is a dna marker which you have to register in your name and address. It costs £20 and £25  you just put a little on any item which you would not want stolen, The Policeman giving the talk said it is really good for caravans and trailers, you also have  stickers to put on vehicle warning thefts it has been marked which they say is really effective at deterring them. It is also used over Europe.

It will not stop thefts but it may help to reduce it.
