We also use a 'stiff' brush and dustpan on the carpet as this tends to get 'sock fluff' and the like up off the floor better than the handheld vacuums.
Powerful, lightish (4KG) and can be used as a hand held or standing upright with a longer attachment. So a bit more versatile than many of the little car vac types. Does not take up much storage space. 3.13 amps. Bagless £39.99.
We found that with many of the rechargeables they needed to be on charge for a long time to get a small amount of power useage. Cheaper to just run one off the electric and has a cord long enough for the van
You could always take the van up to Windermere as well to buy it from their main shop.....what a bind!!!!

We also use a brush and dustpan, with the main power coming from our 11 yr daughter, It can be tempremental and stubbvorn to use, but with some friendly cajohling, and an input from the bank of mum and dad it seems to get done ok, with added bonus of an evening dishwasher also, for much the same price.

Ahhh...
The problem with the 11 yr daughter type power pack is that they very often break down and become totally unmanageable or at best erratic once they get to the 13 yr mark
The OH got a nice cleaner off freecycle for the van - it was so nice it now gets used every day at home looks like I'll have to buy the best recommended on this post for the van now

I use a hand held dyson - they are brilliant. I use it at home for the stairs and odd little corners etc and then take it away in the van with us when we go. I've tried the cheaper hand held vacs and always found them a bit rubbish.
We have a hand held Dyson too and think it's great. The 6 minutes use from a charge is plenty to do the whole caravan and the suction is as good as our main hoover. We also use it at home.
They are expensive though - we bought ours as a reconditioned unit from the Dyson official outlet on ebay about a year ago. Saved almost 50% on the recommended retail price and it was pristine when it arrived. Would recommend them if the shop is still on ebay.
Just wondered how long you need to charge it for for six minutes use?

We have the Argos basics red one mentioned on the first page of this thread, and its brilliant, bought ours on offer for £14.95 and it fits nicely under the small single dinette seat.

I am a brush person myself. Does a great job but don't have the 11year old power pack unfortunately and I have hear that after another 2 years they can become quite impossible to do anything with and very expensive to maintain.
