Our van is coming up to Four years old now so it's time to replace the tyres due to their age. They are 195/70 R14 L196 How much can I expect to pay? The van is booked in for an annual service at the local dealers and I've asked them to change the tyres whilst it's in.
I've always like to replace our tyres after they've done three seasons & before we start the fourth as well. Some say we're throwing away tyres but they've been sitting around for a long time & I'd rather not have problems.
If I were you, I'd call round all the tyre firms in your area & price up the tyres, I do this with mine & I then call the one I buy tyres from on account & ask him if he can match or beat the lowest price.
Your dealer may take your wheels to a tyre depot to have the tyres changed, this'll cost you their labour for taking the wheels as well as the cost of the tyres. You may be happy with that but I'd get on the phone if it were me.

Yep, That's sort of what the receptionist implied. They will ring round when they know for definate what is on already. It seemed an easier option than taking the wheels off and finding some axle stands, etc for the van(which isn't stored at home by the way) I have the tyron bands as well but shouldn't be a problem for an experienced tyre fitter.

You are not going to get much of a choice with 195/70r 14 96n i,ve got the the same size on my caravan, i,ve got Matadors on mine at the present moment they are just going into 4th year so i am looking to change them, but having a problem locating a different make, so i may change the tyre size to 185/75 14 102 there is more choice in this size.

its going to cost you an arm and a leg changing at the dealers.for your bailey size of 196/70/R14/196N OR L.i have just spent months trying to find a tyre mid range £60-£80 because it needs to last us for another 5 years.emailed bailey and the part number for this size of tyre is 1140040 = WOW = £111.86 EACH.no thanks.finally found a tyre to fit keeping the 70 wall because we have a mover and i did not want to adjust it.if you fit 85 wall you will not be able to get your mover on or worse it will spring off in use.anyway the tyre i found and they are few is ..... BRIDGESTONE/SF226/95S RF LOAD 95.kwikfit wanted £95 each plus fitting and balance.i got three fitted by EVENT TYRES for £240 fitted and balanced and the van came to the door,i say three because the spare although unused was also 6 year old.from phone call to fitting in three days.i did insist he only jacked up behind the wheel and no where else.for this he needed to borrow my trolley jack as his was to big to go under.excellent service.phone number if interested is 01925 713 206. pressure will be 39 psi. the fitter is also fully coversant with tyron bands too.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
I went to a normal tyre company such as kwikfit. Paid about £110 for a pair of tyres for the ranger 510/4. They were commercial with 54psi pressure. You need to phone up a day or two before. That way you can get quotes and get the cost down and it gives them a chance to get the tyres in. You just need to be careful where you go as they need to have space for a caravan and car.
Thanks Navver, I'm due tyres on my car soon so I think I'll give them a ring as well. I've been going to a small independant company near by and they have always beaten the big boys on price and service plus they are on a quiet industrial site with loads of room to manoeuvre when done
as i said before kwikfit were £15 per tyre dearer before fitting. i paid £240 fully fitted and balanced if i had gone to kwikfit i would have paid £330

Thanks for all your replies.
not to be rude but if they are matador or federal there is every chance they will crack on the side walls within 12-18 months.
Just popped down to van and the originals are Trailermax 195/70 R14 96N. At least I have all the correct info to hand when I ring the tyre dealer. There are three other Bailey's next to mine, all Pageants ranging in years and all have exactly the same tyre on?!
