In one of the Q&A's in this months Caravan magazine, on of the answers suggests that "most tyre treads should last for between 10,000-15,000miles-a distance few caravans cover in less than a decade.". This seems a bit of an underestimate of both tyre life & caravan mileage. Ignoring, for this instance, arguments about tyres needing replacement after 5 years (which is covered in the magazine), how long do your treads last on your car & caravan & how many miles do you drag your caravan with you in a year?
Tyres on my car seem to last at least around 20,000 miles I think & that's including the drive wheels. If I went through tyres in 10-15,000 I would be seriously upset.
Never replaced caravan tyres so cannot comment on them -but would expect more than on a car to be honest.
Not actually done the maths but 1000-1500 miles a year seems woefully low to me. We picked up our current van just before crimbo & have covered around 550 miles already, in 3 breaks, (twice to the top end of the lakes & a trip to st annes. So with 10 months to go and at least two trips down south planned I reckon 3000 would be a very low estimate, anyone else any thoughts??
See you all soon, Bernard.
