I have just got one, once the snow and bad weather have gone I will fit it and calibrate it. (the instructions look a bit complicated)

Better off with a Milenco nose weight guage for less than the price you quote (£26.88) (IMO). Only one calibrated to a British Standard and thus with accuracy. We have a jockey wheel with built in nose weight guage and it has never read the same as the calibrated Millenco. In fact quite often we used to move the weight around inside the van and the guage remained exactly the same. Always got spot on with the Millenco and at least it went up and down when we shifted the weight around. Came to the conclusion that the built in guage is only useful to give bounce to the jockey wheel when using the motor mover. See link

the one i bought was an alko

tried it out this morning just got the van to the correct height as when towing.

nose weight 80kg .

weight checked with scales previously 80kg

the movers worked a lot more smoothly

will let you know how i get on when i take it away in June

Give a week or two especially when the van's stood with its jockey wheel down and a portion of the weight on it, the spring inside will get slowly weaker and it will start to read slowly higher.

I have been using the Alko Premium Jockey wheel since it came out and I don't leave it  sitting on the ground when on site or when in storage, that's what the steadies are for.....when it's sitting on my drive, I pull the axle pin and remove the jockey wheel altogether, no sense in making it easy for would be thieves and it keeps it from weathering. I also have my old Millenco gauge and there is no difference in the readings if you have it set up properly.

There is a formulae provided to calculate the true noseweight  for the van when it is placed back from the coupling by measuring the distance from the axle.....wouldn't be without it as you can tell at a glance if you are loaded correctly every time you hitch up..........but each to his own.....if you haven't used one you won't know.

Next will come the flack about the jockey wheel needing to help take the weight of the van.......this is another myth.......the steadies are designed to take a greater weight than you think, as long as you don't try to use them as jacks to lift the van.
