On the Chris Evans breakfast show this morning there was a comment about someone discovering he had left the handbrake on the Caravan for the last 15 months. I could just hear the uninitiated across the land saying "So what?" ...and the rest of us saying "Silly S**!"

Well I guess they meant it had been left on whilst parked up. That could lead to

brake shoes sticking to the drum so with the handbrake off the brakes are still on!

Tyres standing on the same spot for 15 months...potential wall problems

................and having a van unused for 15 months!!!!!!!!

Could be, but why, I wonder, does someone's negligence of their own property warrant a story on radio 2? There's nothing unusual about that, in fact, where my van is stored there are vans that havn't been moved or washed for years!

Hi, like to be there when he tries to move it, air waves blue i think, make news then "caravaner commited as he rants and raves and calls his van every name under the sun".reminds me must move van or it could be me.

i have seen two now at two different sites being dragged onto a trailer with the wheels fully locked on.not a pretty site and a smell of burning rubber filling the air.not done it myself on a caravan but believe its a big hammer job as it is with cars.

when i lived at my previous house one of my neighours had a lovely caravan a really nice compass and it never moved for 4 years.the reason?he couldnt be bothered getting a tow bar fitted to his new car

I regularly pass houses & storage areas where there's caravans all covered in green because they've sat unused for years. Seems such a waste to me. i suppose they just get scrapped in the end.

I have had to surrender my license yet again due to health reasons so while kay does all the driving she has only towed for 10 or 12 miles before and that was last year. we have been to our storage a couple of times over the winter but havent used the van since Dec . anyway yesterday she ''said right I've got to get used to towing or else its a waste of time having the van'' so off we went to the storage, checked the van out no problems with it apart from one of the blinds was a bit sticky and that was soon sorted. we hitched it up and off we went for a practice.she drove on a variety of different roads with varying amounts of traffic, islands,junctions etc and coped fantastic, i know i was saying thiungs like slow down a bit as you approach etc but kay listened and in the end i shut up and left her to it. got back to the storage and with me guiding her back she reversed it onto the pitch but we had to push it the last 6' , not a problem. we got home and she was straight into the cc book looking for holidays, booked one looking for number 2 . no stopping her now . good on her

what some may not understand about leaving the handbrake on for long periods and the brakes sticking on is that the hand brake can be released as normal and you will not know the brakes are partially frozen on.this will cause the brakes to overheat and burn out as you are driving.so hot as i seen it only once burn out the one shot nut and you lose the wheel.it melts it and allows the bearing to slide over the top.in some cases it can cause a fire.not scaremongering just stating the facts.
