Oh - last post I made looks like this has already been covered earlier in the thread, sorry tentage said people have actually been booked for `undertaking. Barking mad I think. They should charge the people sitting in the middle/outside lanes for not dropping back surely.'
only overtake on the left if the vehicle in front is signalling to turn right, and there is room to do
so
stay in your lane if traffic is moving slowly in queues. If the queue on your right is moving more
slowly than you are, you may pass on the left
Rule 268:
Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions,
where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may
sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with
the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right. Do not weave
in and out of lanes to overtake.
What these rules are effectively saying is if you are in queuing traffic and your lane is moving faster than the one on your right then you may pass the slower moving traffic. It also infers that if the lane on your left is moving faster than your lane, you may not enter it in order to pass vehicles in your lane. Therefore, you may not pull into the left hand lane to pass a middle lane hogger.

I think this is just a reflection of how bad things have become in this country and not just relating to caravanners.
I am a jogger and often out alone when nutters shout from there windows or throw things at me. As a member of a running club, a male member usually has to chaperone a group of ladies because of this problem.
When you think about it we are pretty much in a lawless society. One aspect of my job is crime prevention and anti social behavour so I am seeing what is going on first hand.
We used to look at America on the telly and think how bad it was, but as a regular visitor I can see they are on top of things and have zero tolerance in a lot of areas. The way they deal with similar motoring offences seems over the top but it seems to be having an effect.
Wow, that was a little bit deep for 9'oclock in the morning!
Hasn't this thread turned about face altogether? It started off with someone defending their right to hold up traffic and had turned into people defending their right to undertake other vehicles.
Surely this is a case of everyone is entitled to their own opinion... Just as long as it is the same as mine!
Regardless of what you think of the law, it is the law and if you do not wish to obey it then either be prepared to take the consequences or go and live in a country where they have a different law. Even if it were not the law, what is wrong with having some manners and consideration on the roads?
What happened to dreadnought was just awful, so dangerous & very upsetting. I don't really think of that as a right to hold up traffic - they were simply travelling at a safe speed.
I don't personally defend my right to `undertake' other people, but I do question the wisdom of a law which might penalise anyone for happening to quite safely pass someone who is stupidly hogging the middle or outside lanes - as the `hoggers' to my mind are the ones with no consideration for others. Silly bad driving like this can provoke others into deliberately passing on the inside lane, or simply accidentally doing so.
That does not make anyone passing or wishing to pass a 'hogger' a bad, bad mannered or inconsiderate driver.
