When we hook up to the car and put the fridge on battery the spanner light comes on and it's flashing. We start up the car and it stays the same. It works OK on elecrtric, the light stays on.Something is wrong somewhere. Please can anybody help.OH has just said when he unhooks the car and tries it with just the van battery it still flashes. This is a new van to us and we have never had this problem with our other vans.
Hi path20,we had same problem all i did was on the grey plug/lead open the gaps on the big pin in the centre,or check the connection at back of same pin.

The spanner means it is not working, so it is not getting the 12V from the car. Is there a number next to the spanner? This code can be checked against the list in the instruction book, may give more info.
The fridge is not supposed to work off the van battery, so it is showing the correct info at that point. It also should only work from the car when the ignition is on, so the display is correct for when you just plug in.
There should be an ignition controlled relay in your car that switches on the power to the fridge, this may not be working properly.
First thing to check is whether there is power to the correct pins on the car socket, then check the wiring on the caravan plug.
Another thought.....were your previous vans pre 1998? At around that time the 12S wiring altered, so it may be your car is wired to an older standard. Not sure now exactly what the difference was, but worth considering just in case.
First check if you are getting power from car. with engine running, put a volt meter(or a test lamp)from pin 6 to pin 7 on 12s socket & you should have power. If car is ok, undo 12s plug on 'van to check connections pin 6/pin 7.
most only work on a relay from the car.try watching the light with someone revving up the engine high and it will possibly go out.the relay is designed to protect your car battery.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Thanks everyone. Van now back in bed on the drive and OH is not off now until weekend. Will try all you have suggested then and get back to you. Thanks a lot. The tow bar and electrics have just been fitted to our new to us Zafira. They may be faulty.
Yes jennifernn. The number next to the spanner is 10.
Have you got the manual to check what the "10" means?
If it is a Thetford fridge, code 10 says "No engine running signal is present and control is in manual DC mode"
In other words it is not getting 12v power from the car.
You do need to try what Michael says too as your car relay may not switch over when the engine is just ticking over.
I see these are new electrics on the car,in that case the first thing to check after that would be whether all the pins are actually connected properly.
