Hi, does anyone have a Pro-tec caravan cover or opinons on them?  We spotted this company at the NEC last year and they seemed quite impressive.  We will be storing our caravan on the drive but unfortunately our neighbours like blossom trees so I think that a cover would be the way to go.  I really like the fact that these covers are waterproof and breathable and are lined with non scratch material - but also because you can still get in and out of the caravan with opening door section.  As a side issue would a cover deter a would be thief do you think (thats not a factor in why I would buy a cover but just wondering).

Had a protec until a couple of years ago, let it go with the van when we sold it as it didn't fit new one. First class bit of kit, made to measure and kept our van dry and clean. The only criticism was the time they took to deliver. Made three phone calls in all to chase them up. The third call was to give them 7 days or would be demanding money back. It arrived 2 days later. Ordered in Feb, never got it till beginning of April, nevertheless the product was first class.................Mick

I've had two Protec covers for my last two caravans. No problems and keeps it dry and clean, with easy access.
Mine is parked in the garden, and connected to the garage, so that I can run a couple of oscillating fans in the 'van from s timer in the garage, for a hour a day, which seems to keep it aired.
I've just been working in it,insulating the wheel arches, with the cover on, as there is some light through the cover.
Mine came with a pair of wheel covers as well.

We are very happy with ours - we got it used with our caravan from the dealer so it only cost £75, but my husband can put it on by himself and I love the fact that I can open the door and go in when I need to with the cover still on.

Thank you!  This one is definitely on the list - I received a really helpful detailed email from Pro-tec & £379 less 10% for being a C&CC member sounds a good price for glove fit cover & the access will be very handy.

Had one on my 2001 Sterling Topaz and loved it. Still have it if anyone interested? Have not bought another for this van yet as it is very tight where I store it due to it being wider and I am not able to get it on. If I can get bigger storage area I will get another.

Hi Fiona

We have had a Protec cover on our Bailey Arizona for 2 winters now.

Pros
(1) It's a good fit
(2) Keeps the caravan beautifully clean and dry
(3) Acccess to the caravan even when covered
(4) Allows enough light in to work by inside
(5) Wheel covers protect tyres from sunlight
(6) Curtains and upholstery are protected from sunlight
(7) Excellent customer service - twice sent out   replacement buckles by return, free of charge
(8) Green colour blends into garden well
(9) Hopefully might discourage a potential thief a little, ie, disguises 'van and would have to be removed before 'van can be moved

Cons
(1) Expensive
(2) A bit of struggle to fit/remove, especially if it's windy
(3) Fitting/removal really needs 2 people in my experience
(4) Susceptible to damage from protrusions. Make sure all protrusions, eg aeria, chimney, jointing strips are covered
(5) Time it takes to fit/remove if the 'van is used frequently
(6) Bulky to store

One of our roof jointing strips wore a hole in our cover during the first winter. My wife repaired/reinforced it with a piece of the extra fabric they include. I now "pad" ALL protrusions very carefully with pipe insulation foam secured with gaffer tape and thick rubber bands. I, also, gently rounded of the corners of the aluminium roof strips with a file.

I would recommend the optional storm straps, especially if your 'van would be stored in an exposed area. The optonal large storage bag is, also, useful although ours had to be replace when it tore near the handle almost immediately. The replacement was reinforced with additional material.

Regards
Tim

Oh, I forgot to mention the "free" towbar cover does not fit. When I queried this they said that it was just a "universal" size!!!

This is the first year that we haven't used ours due to it(the cover) being damaged and repaired twice (its now in good order with a set of eyelets around the base to use with 'elastic' rope).

Didn't put it on because we wanted to see the results without it.

Worst winter I can remember - not just the very high winds that we get around our house but snow lying for weeks.

The van now needs a jolly good clean and the damp (this is new) sorting.

The results prove that

a/ I am daft and

b/ Protec rules

Please note that these are largely non transferable - made to suit a particular make of van and will flap about causing damage to the van and ripping the cover if its not a precise fit.

I ordered a Protec at the Caravan and Camping show in Manchester this January. Delivery was prompt, quality of material seems good but noticed a split in a seam above the door entry flap. After some frustrating telephone conversations it was arranged for Protec to collect and return which all went well. However, didn't use it again until last week when I removed it from the bag and low and behold the split was still there. my wife therefore stitched it up herself. Contacted Protec and once again are showing a lack of concern for customers as they said they would ring back and they haven't. My question is, what were they doing with the cover when they had it returned. I sent them a photo of the split seam.
We have the cover with the split back which is really good if you have the flat space which is shown on the demo video. We struggle to get the cover on as per directions as our van is on a sloping driveway and my wife being 5'4" finds it vey difficult to lift the cover so high even with the poles. Our solution is putting it on from the rear which does work.
if they are water proof why do I have dark water streaks at the front of the van.

We have to use a cover as our van is next to a tree in the front garden.  We had a 'cheaper' cover which we bought for £140.  It didn't stand up to the winds and we replaced it with a protec.  Excellent cover and the green colour makes it a lot less noticeable on the drive.

The hitch cover is huge and the smaller one that came with the van looks a lot better.

Hi fiona,
I bought a Protec caravan cover on the "waterproof and breathable" advertising. Don't be fooled
as the cover leaked after the second winters use and the company will fob you off with every excuse under sun rather than admit there was anything wrong with the product and replace/refund. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
