Hi there - you might notice that Im putting together a shopping list for the Coachman Amara & quite a shopping list it is too!  I've hit a bit of a stumbling block with movers though, due to the weight of the caravan mtplm of 1600kg.  There doesn't seem to be a Powrtouch mover to suit a van of this weight (HD seems to have a max weight of 1500kgs) and the Truma SE is £1350 - I've only budgeted for £600!!!!  We are going to need a mover, yes because its heavy but we want it to fit neatly against a fence which is at an awkward angle to the mouth of driveway.  I know that there are other brands but these are the ones Im most familiar with.  Am I really going to have to fork out so much?!

Ive read through the many past posts on movers but can't seem to find anything to answer my question or am I missing something.

I don't think you can park it against the fence, because you need to release the mover pressure from the tyres. If you leave it like that, the tyre will be damaged.

It's like parking the caravan with the wheel on a brick.

Ah ok thanks for that - we've probably still got enough space to leave enough room for a person to walk around the caravan - lengthwise is more of an issue..

If you get the Truma SE, the release is electric.Just don't let them put your isolator switch anywhere you cannot access it when parked.

We have the Truma TE. Our van is 1900 kg, and our drive is 1 in 10.

We have a 1900 kg single axle van and after discussions with Powrtouch they fitted it with their lower geared HD3 model.
Where fitting to "over-weight" vans you have to accept they cant climb anything like the inclines quoted for 1200 kg vans.
Our concreted driveway has a 1:14 incline and the HD3 mover, powered by a 85 Ahr battery, drives effortlessly up this dry or wet. I have a 1:10 levelling wedge; the mover climbs this if the tyre is dry but the roller can slip if the tyre is wet.
Prior to this we had a 1700 kg van fitted with a Reich Mover. Its performance with that van was nearly as good, it was just a bit more obviously it was being loaded.

Both these movers can be engaged/disengaged from either side.

So your 1600 kg van, parked against a fence, is no problem for these movers; provided your looking at inclines up to about 1:12. The HD3 being lower geared has better performance.

The rhyno charger will do the job for you it is rated for an 1800kg caravan and a 1 in 4 slope. Price fitted is £775 with a lifetime warranty .  I had one fitted last september and I am quite impressed, powrtouch would pricematch it with their Hd model with no quibbles at all but I decided that the Rhyno looked to be better value.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Thanks for your advice I had wondered about the Powrtouch based on the fact that our drive is completely flat - its just an awkward angle from entering drive to the point we want to keep the caravan and of course the odd slightly sloped pitch on site.  I've heard a lot of good things about Powrtouch but will also look into the other manufacturers too.

As ever LDKO you are spot on as this will testify.

Incidentally I have one of these and it works a treat and didn't cost a kings randsom either.

we have a powertouch mover and it was the best thing that we have bought, I can manouver it anywhere driveway or pitch without a problem, we were on a site at Easter that was quite muddy but it took it all in its stride and I was able to get into position fairly easy, did not have room to use Jeep cars blocking access way.
