Its not a perfect way of working it out but on average French sites tend to have a 6 amp supply so you have 1380 watts to play with, less of course anything else you are using at the time like fridge and charger. What you have to be careful about with microwaves is that they often show the cooking power of say 600/700 watts but the total current draw can be higher but this will be shown on the plate mentioned by Saxo above. We have a microwave in our caravan and we have used it in France on a 6amp supply.

If you are buying one, and just want an ordinary mains one, pop along to Tesco/Asda/Argos or whatever and buy the smallest and cheapest one you can find, £20/£25 maybe.
