Wow thats a long list of 'tips' for them! I'd be worried having to check all those on a new caravan. Have all these really been found on a Pegasus? Are they not as good as alot of people thought? I hope this is unusual to have to make these checks on new vans - doesn't give much confidence in ordering new, does it!

Get the dealer to show you everything, if they are good they should give you a full handover and show you how to hitch up . Check jockey wheel up, lights all work when hitched and mirrors fitted.Have fun!

I would expect a briefing on how everything works & switches on, where everything is including fuses etc and I would carry out reasonable detailed visual checks inside and out. I would expect a briefing on hitching up and a detailed review of all of the paperwork and warranty.

Make sure you check your noseweight before you leave the dealers as well as the thorough reveiw of all the features including all water and heating appliances.

We are also new to caravanning and picked up our new caravan a few weeks ago.

1 -Take a pen and paper with you to make a few notes.

2-Inform your car insurance and breakdown services that you are starting to tow before you collect your van.

3- Dont leave until you understand how everything works especially the heater. We had great fun trying to work it on our weekend away after collecting the van and even though we have read the manual several times it is still trial and error now!

4- Get some advice on levelling up and fitting the wheel locks - we didnt and struggled.

5- dont forget the car mirrors

We found that they were great at telling us how everything worked but didn't really go through what to do when you pitch up at the site i.e. levelling etc. They will hopefully run through everything and check the van fully with you so any snags will be picked up then. You will probably feel quite overwhelmed with all the information you are given and expected to remember but otherwise really enjoy it!!

We were soooo excited and love caravanning now.

If it is that bad leave it at the dealers and tell them to shove it and take your money else where

correction if it is a pegasus or the other new one everyone is creaming themselves over leave it and buy the ONLY good van worth having a GT 60

Well said. The GT60 does it all. Light to tow and a lot cheaper.

Agreed

Looks like OP is getting a GT60 520/4.

The only issues we have have been our fault, but I know I read a lot on here before we collected ours and I did go armed with a list of stuff to check, such as cupboard catches all working properly etc.

In the handover talk, I didn't listen properly to the important stuff which meant we got a bit confused by a few things on our first trip away, so my advice would be to try to concentrate!

I hope it goes well!

is that  fault ripped from our thread  or has someone else got the same problem ???  need to know..

add to that list,

excess condensation forming in top lockers & running down walls

awning light come away at one end

faulty led light over kitchen

knocking underneath when walking in van due to metal on metal contact where front legs meet chassis rail

ceiling lights and top lockers filling with plastic & poly waste each time you use it

need any more ????

I think this is the best advice! Your head is going to be so full of all the other stuff on this thread you are just not going to hear what's said.

I know we had a good professional hand over but when we set up first time we couldn't remember anything.

Just because others have had these other problems - many of which will be one offs - doesn't mean you will.

Errm this seems to have turned into the be afraid, be very afraid thread  apart from that, if you have one, then video them telling you how everything works, a practical demonstration you can replay of your actual van is really helpful and saves trying to remember everything or write it all down.

My tip, would be to book a night at a caravan site close to the dealers ,,The dealer will show you  how to work things ,heating ,water, lighting e.t.s Then if you find anything wrong ,or not shure on ,its only a short ride back to get some advice ,and little extras from the dealers that you may want ,,,,,wil want ,have a good time all wil be well and ,and enjoy it for many years ,to come ......brings it all back , best regards

Don't forget to either take a car registration numberplate for the back of the caravan, or to take the necessary documents with you if you have arranged for the caravan dealer to make up the number plate for you.

We picked up a new van once.  Dealers said they would make up the numberplate.  We took documents.  Half way down the M6 realised both the dealer and I had forgot all about the number plate and I was driving illegally.  Keele Services gave me a piece of card and the loan of a felt pen - but it's still illegal I think.
