Well after a long wait we finally had our new 2010 awning arrive today, and we are planning to try it out at the weekend, and leave it erected for a couple of days, but with the risk of a heavy frost still looming, then im wondering if this could case any damage to it? Its made of good quality polyester 4000 hydrostatic head, and has a full steel base and a bendy roof pole frame.

We have used our awning (Bradcot Portico XL) during the winter and the frost didn't seem to cause any damage. We've used it since during a typical wet British summer and had no problems. Ours isn't made of polyester but has acrylic sides.
Any awning left out long enough to the elements will deteriorate over time, you can see this with seasonal pitch awnings.I I wouldn't worry too much about a bit of frost though.I think more damage is caused by uv rays from prolonged exposure to hot sun.

We have an awning just like the Kampa and have used it through this winter temps hit -8 one night and we had a foot of snow on the ground too. It came to no harm whatsoever, winds and UV do have an ill effect though!
I suspect all weather conditions effect awnings, but it's probably the 'degree of effect'. The more the extreme the weather (either way) the more it will effect the awning and will possibly decrease it's life expectancy. I wouldn't have thought that a bit of cold weather would have an appreciable effect - it's not going to make the awning instantly deteriorate IMHO. I agree with Dreadnought.
We've always followed the philosophy of buying a relatively cheap porch awning, looking after it (repairing any wind damage and re-spraying periodically) and then not worrying if it does take some wear or at worst really did get damaged.
When we were in N Wales a storm blew up over-night and ours was one of the few standing in the morning with no worse than a pole bent - one fella had a £2.5k awning he had just bought damaged beyond use, he was so mad about it he just chucked it away - albeit a few folk wondered if it could be repaired or make an insurance claim.
Ours hardly looks like a show awning but it does the job, probably not for those who just want a massive extension to the their van, use once a year and want to pose on site!
