as many of you know we are having problems with our Pegasus.its off back to the factory monday so we are emptying everything out and noting anything we are unhappy with so it can be corrected while there.(21 items so far )
On doing a close inspection outside i noticed a dull area of paintwork between kitchen window and fridge vent , just the way the sunlight was catching it made it stand out, not noticed it before. It feels orange peely and there is actually evidence of several scratches below the surface and a small amount of white overspray on the underside of the window suround.you have to look closely but its there and it aint right.
this van i reckon has been damaged either before we got it or when it was at the dealers 3 weeks ago getting other repairs done. ive phoned the dealer who are going to look into it but "as you`ve signed for it on delivery as ok ?? "
now how do i prove we havent damaged it ????
now totally disillusioned with the whole thing, worst caravanning experience ever !!!!!
orange peel is when paint is sprayed in slightly damp conditions as the bits under the paint is water/dampness. methinks either it was scraped at the dealer or at the factory and they gave it a quick sand and blow over hoping the owner wouldnt notice
i would say you need to speak to consumer rights as IMO this added to the other build issues render the thing unfit for purpose. get onto bailey direct and reject the van
As i read these posts from Bev and john and bobsbabes its actually making us frightened to buy a new van.We are considering upgrading at the end of this season but after reading posts like this it just seems that you are better off buying an oider caravan. We have saved bloody hard the last couple of years to get a nice van but it makes us sick to see what can happen and how you both are treated when you spend a lot of money. We wish you all the best.

Oh dear, bev+jon! I've been reading your stories, but had not had time recently to get 'more involved' on the forum. Really sorry to hear of all the problems. It may be a good idea to contact someone who can advise about your legal rights here and to tell the retailer and Bailey that this is what you feel you need to do to get the matter resolved.
If there is evidence it has been re-sprayedthen I would think with such a new van you are on pretty strong ground. If you are in Which (Consummers Association) I would speak to them - if not I'd seriously consider joining them as in my experience just their involvement makes companies start jumping to attention.
This is terrible. Hopefully now Bailey are on the case, they will do the honourable thing and sanction a replacement / insist the dealer allows a rejection. Remember there are plenty of other dealers around the country.
spoke to the dealer on the phone and now emailed Bailey direct.I prefer email as its printable as evidence when the going gets tough.
just discussing with the wife, when we first collected the van it was raining then we had the snow and ice the next day so any repaired damage would have been extremely hard to spot, but who goes looking hard for repaired damage on a new van ?
i checked it for obvious dents / scratches in spite of the bad weather, seemed ok
If there is a good thing to come out of your problems, it is that it makes all the rest of us that little bit more cynical and wary about anything being purchased. "yes Mr dealer, I know it is a new van but I need to thoroughly check and recheck ALL parts before I accept delivery".
Hope you get a satisfactory conclusion before too long.
I am collecting our new Pegasus tomorrow, so will be checking it carefully. I had a quick look the other day as it had arrived and it seemed ok. It had plastic sheei over all upholstery, no carpets down (wrapped up inside)and was a bit dusty!
In Bailey's defense we have had 3 new Baileys over last 10 years or so and all have been fine, none have had major faults, all minor issues were corrected. Our dealer does prepare the vans very well which is why we are still using them.

There have been a few threads with moans about the pegasus. Have not got one myself and not likely to but does anyone know how many have been sold and the % of sales resulting in complaint.
As individual complainants you are not in a strong position but if there are sufficient complaints and you got together as an action group you would be in a much stronger position to get some action..

Not all manufacturers are bad. Personally I wouldn't buy a Bailey and particularly a brand new product like the Pegasus. Wait until all the problems are solved.
Have a look at the more traditional vans. They have been made for years. Whilst nobody could guarantee you a trouble free van you will find that they won't be as much trouble.
Hundreds are sold without any trouble but they never get on here. Swift offer a fantastic after sales service and I wouldn't go anywhere else for a van
With regard to the paint “respray” there will be times when minor damage is sustained during production. Quite naturally this will be reworked to the required final finish standard and the unit subsequently inspected and released
