Hi we have finally got the van out and about, had it on EHU but the alarm didn't get any power in it. So either it needs a new battery or it will need a charger unit ( didn't get one with the van but the alarm has the charging socket on the front )
So as we don't know if it works yet and the battery and charger are £34.95 each
is there any generic batteries and chargers that would be suitable at much less cost to find out if the system works.
If the IDM3 has three wires coming from it it is indeed charged to some degree though the main battery when on hook up, if only two wires then no. The battery is a sealed lead acid of 1.2 amp hour and is sold by any specialist battery shop for less than a tenner. The charger supplied is of limited use to fully charge the battery and for as much as ?20 you can buy a plug top switch mode charger specfically designed for this battery. I got mine by Yuasa model CM03A12T from Maplins for ?14 on special offer. I had the instructions as contained in an Abbey instruction manual and found these better than the originals, if I could remember who 'borrowed' them.....

The battery should last around 7months on a full charge. If its been allowed to fully discharge it may well be deceased, the charger is similar to some phone chargers (I know as my van had that system) although I had the correct CEC charger
If you replace the 12v battery, remember the alarm code will default back to the factory settings. Have a ring round to see if you can source it cheaper or get a re-con.
i have a spare 12v battery and keep it charged with a charger for a childs remote car toy, this has various conections.been fine for me and they only cost about £5.
