For you techno's out there what is the difference between a bonded roof and a laminated roof on a van?

(I did try this elsewhere but this section seems more active so wonder if anybody who reads this happens to know??)

Non bonded roofs tend to have one thin panel of aluminium stapled to the sides back and front. A bonded roof (bit like your floor and walls), comprises of a series of layers with inner and outer skins bonded to a core of insulating foam, to form a light and rigid structure. You will have heard of delamination, where the layers come apart; those are the layers that are "bonded" together. That sandwich "bonded" construction makes for a stronger structure.

So, your Pegasus is bonded on all sides and roof, which is why you can park car there and walk on it to wash it if you wish. According to some recent posts the water than drains away to the internal cupboards and, presumably, delamination occurs to the roof.

Cheers Phil - do you know what laminated means in this context?  I'm presuming that it means the roof has a plastic type layer to combat water ingress...

I wonder if Bailey have considered putting some ornamental goldfish bowls in their cupboards? They could then make it a feature...

A Laminate is a product comprising of two or more layers of material. Plywood, in its basic form is a laminate. Series of bits of woods stuck together. In the case of the Pegasus, the "layers" stuck together can be described as a laminate. I am wondering if someone has decided that the modern expression is a "sandwich". The laminate or sandwich Bailey use is an aditional safeguard for combatting water ingress. Others will let us know (and have done) if it works. Perhaps (tongue in cheek) the acronym stands for Aquatic Leakage Used To Each Caravan

Other kinds of "laminates" that can be used for attaching to caravans include products that stick to the roof with adhesive (bonding) and which contains electrical components bonded to a protective cover which can create electricity for the van from the sun. Then there are carbon and glass components stuck together as a laminate to create insulation wqhich you could add to your van for more insulation (If you had nothing else to do!!!)

Pretty much the same thing just a different name methinks. Your Coachman includes a polystyrene core within the laminate structure for insulation. laminated/bonded/sandwiched gives it greater strength

Hopefully not quite the same thing, I don't fancy a stream in my cupboards!

Thanks chaps that was what I was wondering are they one and the same thing? But I don't think I'll test it out by walking on the roof!!
