Hi,we just bought a caravan which came with an awning but after trying to put it up before we go away at easter we have found that it is way too small. It is about 2foot short at either end, ie the awning cord stops 2 foot short of the end of the awning rail each side. We would like to sell it as it is in very good nik but have no idea how to describe the size of it. So, how do we determine the size? There is also no name on it to help to identify it.

Hi you measure it ground to ground ie the complete length of the cord. Do you know if all the poles are intact and present?

Hi Joanne, thanks for the quick reply,I know to measure from ground to ground for the van that we have, but don't know how to measure the awning that we have that doesn't fit the van, if that makes sense.
Yes, all the poles are there and the curtains are washed and ironed ready to go but I wouldn't want to sell it to someone and then find that it didn't fit theirs either.

The cord should be shorter than the rail and there should be a triangular flap that folds inside and is pegged down.

How far of the ground are the pegging straps,the distance from the last two which are vertical with the cord plus a bit is the size of the awning but don't add on the flaps if there are any.

Hi,

Close examination of the awning may reveal a label or a number (850 for example) printed on the material alongside the awning cord, this will be the A measurement.

The cord rarely goes from ground to ground - measure from the top edge of the plastic skirt one end to the top edge of the plastic skirt the other end along the cord line this should give you the minimum "A" measurement ( the maximum would probably be +4/3 of the depth of the skirt eg. "A" measurement = 725cm, skirt depth = 30cm awning size = 725-765cm)

The bottom of the canvas should end up about 3" [8 cm] from the ground; so the "A" dimension for describing your awning is the measured length all the way round the edge that abuts the caravan, ignoring the mud flaps, then add two times 8 cm [16cm].

Then when somebody measures their required "A" dimension, ground to ground they will know that your awning will sit correctly with the ends out of the mud by 3" each side.

Thanks for all the input folks, I now have some idea of how to measure. My awning size is 825 so a fair bit bigger than the one that came with the van.
