I would be very greatful for your recommendations on what you use. I was thinking about getting a campingaz party grill - but is it a bbq or a grill ? Whats the difference or are there no differences ?? I've only ever used bbqs with coal. I'm getting all confused ! Got to be sorted for next Thursday.
Thanks SusieSu

Most people I have witnessed cooking bbq's on beauclaire or cadac's seem to use the griddle or flat plate. Seems as if food just sits in its own fat and grease.

Is there an actual bbq attachment for these that gives you the bbq flavour?

Micky

Hi Micky, thats what I want - the bbq flavour!I have just found that Royal do a gas bbq that uses lava rocks - not sure what they are - assume they give food a bbq taste. Will investigate further...

Cadac Carri-Chef, & use the bar be que grid with wood chips in the fat collecting pan with a little water, great trad smell & taste, Then use the flat griddle plate to cook breakfast.

Also try a stir fry or chilli in the skottle, We cook everything on ours, ( that means I do!!!)

We've had a couple of barbeques, both charcoal and gas but I wouldn't swap our Cadac for anything else.  We use mainly the hotplate as it's so versatile and quick.  Everything cooks evenly and it's so easy to clean.

Gonna take a closer look at the cadac. My OH quite likes the look of them.....and as he does the BBQ ing. Just a little worried that we won't use all the different attachments.
Thanks for all your advice.   Susie

I have got a BillyOh BBQ grill, which is very similar to a George Forman grill with non stick cooking area, flat plate for cooking eggs and onions, plus the addition of a domed lid for baking things and hotting pies, doing Jacket wedges ect. Its a good size diameter for a family and runs off gas cartridges, so its very easy to transport around, take to the beach or out for a picnic. It was bought from Flameing BBqs, who are based in Nottinghamshire, and cost around £50.

Some people would say that its not a BBq because it doesnt give any smoke off to flavour the food, but its good because it drains away all fats from meat, so is very healthy. I actually prefare it to the big buffalo gas Bbq we have which was far more expensive.

We use the Cadac for just about all our cooking! The food cooked on the BBQ grid tastes every bit as good as the more traditional barbecues, plus we have the griddle pan and flat pan for more "traditional" cooking (breakfasts etc.). We also use the skottel for stir-fries / chilli-con-carne / curries etc., and we also have a new paella pan which I'm looking forward to the OH trying out soon!

So, although the Cadac is not cheap, it is very well made, and extremely versatile. Don't believe those who say that food from a gas BBQ is not as tasty - it ain't true!

I want a Cadac very badly, but OH won't have any of it! I have even volunteered to do all the cooking and that failed too! I know we have replaced the awning, bought a new LCD TV (the other had a backlight failure just out of warranty) and other odds and sods, but surely I am not asking too much am I?

I will guide her to this page and let her see how much happier and functional I would be as a caravanning buddy if only she would let me get a Cadac. Who knows!

Yes you can buy the basic cadac and add to it - we bought the eazi chef last year.  You do get the bbq flavour from the bbq'd food, because it does smoke a little - wonderful.  Last year in France we used it almost daily either to cook breakfasts when we got fed up with croissants or bbq at night or both - Oh and we used the griddle frequently for steaks.  Two weeks ago I splashed out on the roasting pan and dome lid as I kept reading how you can cook a roast chicken with these extras - and my, what a wonderful chicken, tried it out at the weekend and worked a treat.  I'm going to have a go at roast lamb next.  Funny thing is I hate cooking at home but there is something about cooking outdoors that does it for me. Yes they do take up space, especially with all the attachments but it is one sacrifice I am willing to make - I am also lucky enough to have a trailer - amongst my other best buy!!!  You could probably get a smaller gas bbq but for flexibility, in my opinion (and there are other opinions) the cadac is ideal.
