As mould is a living organism, it has the ability to 'root down' and become enbedded in anything that it cares to grow on, fabrics being one of the worst things for this.
You need to kill it off completely, not just wipe away whats visible to the naked eye, you could try a fairly dilute solution of Milton, I have used it in the past on paintwork and its been fine, but perhaps safest to do a small test patch first just to check that its ok on your van.
