We got our 1998 Avondale 18 months ago. Haven't used it since last September and have just had the tyres renewed today by etyres who said they were car tyres from 1996!!

Since we got it we've used it for short and long trips, including twice down to Devon and Cornwall. I can't bear to think what could have happened. Even though the tyres looked ok, we should have had them checked out and replaced when we first bought the van.

I think this is a lesson learnt and fortunately, not the hard way.

I guess they could have been the original fitted tyres. The date code shows the date of manufacture, not the date they were fitted to the van. They could have been stored for that time.

Are the new ones car tyres or the commercial type with high pressure.

our van had car tyres on it when we got it last year too. we didn't know this till the bloke who changed them got a look at them, but we got new trailer tyres put on straight away anyway because we didn't know how long the original ones had been on.

it's the first thing we'll check with any future vans.
