While it possibly could it's a risky thing to say the least and I'm sure the wardens would have something to say. We use an electric panel heater in ours and that works well.
I should think somebody will be along shortly to rail on about the nanny state, health and safety gone mad and how they have safely had a camp-fire in their's many times, however I think it's a big no myself.

I'd say not worth the risk much better with a little electric blow heater. We burnt our garden parasol with a table top patio heater last summer, made an awful mess and we had to throw it away. Not too bad when it cost us £30 to replace but an awnings another matter!
