seen one the other day fixed in the jockey wheel clamp.he had a pole the same size as the jockey wheel and the dish was clamped to it.i though it was good becuse it would not blow about in the wind.PROBLEM is you must always ensure when you pitch up a clear view to the south/south east for the dish to work.it was about 4 to 5 foot long alloy pole.

I used to have a 2 part aluminium pole before I got the Maxview semi tonic

A shorter top part fitted inside the lower part using multi fit waste pipe fittings

I had the side JW clamp then but you can get a clamp to accomodate a pole alongside the A frame or a spare towball could be adapted to hold the pole in front of the A frame

Here is a pic of my old set up complete with wind powered sat dish

When the pole was extended it could be guyed to the grab handles and the dish pointed over the van roof

I use the above towsure Airer/TV Mast Support Stand but I found it necessary to drill 3 holes in the base plate large enough to accept 3 tent pegs and anchor it firmly to the ground.

If you don't then the wind on the aerial can whip the post away from the vertical.

I used to use a length of pipe that had 2 exhaust clamps bolted to it, big enough to clamp to the jockey wheel. Worked well until i forgot to remove it from my old van when we changed to new one. Now i use a portable Argos whirrly washing line pole and jam the tripod below the jockey wheel - works for me.

One other thing to bear in mind is that when the dish is mounted on the jockey wheel, depending on the direction it has to face, it will stop your front locker opening properly if it opens up the way.

ok ta but none the wiser on how to get my jockey wheel off & replace . if it was on the side like my old caravan it would be simple ?/ cant use tripod because on hard standing & nothing to anchor it 2 & although the areal mast stand thingy is simple am not going to pay £30 & would it not shake in the high winds .

I fix mine to a piece of 2 x 2 timber, sharpened to a point about a foot long. I bang this into the ground them clamp the dish to it using a pipe clamp. It gives a lovely firm platform for the dish and can be located easily in a suitable position to point SE.

If the van is facing the right way this same pipe clamp can be used to clamp to the jockey wheel tube when it is raised.

As ghostly stated at the beginning, his Jockey Wheel is now inside his A-frame and therefore any mast which has to attach to his Jockey Wheel is no use.

He needs a mast that is supported by something other than the Jockey Wheel and the only only mast support that I know of is the Airer/TV Mast support from Towsure that is held upright by the Hook-up Socket.(as shown above).
This is an expensive and heavy bit of kit but it does work, provided it is pegged at the base in windy conditions.

The only alternative is to stick the mast into the ground and guy it as you would a flagpole.

Hi ghosty, i already had a arial pole so i brought some stick on clips like these & attached the dish to the top of the pole

  http://www.gradeuk.co.uk/store/product.asp?spc=09-6080&shelfid=49S115S1

They use adesive pads to attach onto side of caravan, i have a set of pads on the front & back so i can get a signal where ever i go & they stood up to 30 mile a hour winds march last year

See the picture in my gallery of the dish set up on the back i later added a set of pads to the front to enable me to choose & being as they are white it is not that noticable on the side of the caravan..

  hope this helps

 eddy & co

Most folks do but not all Jockey Wheels are positioned in such a way that this is possible.

To remove the JW raise the front of the van as high as you can and release the clamp

If its an Alko JW with the sloping handle and smaller red top it will drop out with a bit of pesuasion

If its not possible to do it that way you need to unwind until the 2 halves of the JW part and the wheel end will drop onto the ground while the top part will lift out

It can be quite tight to put back as the bottom of the top section tends to spread outward and mine has needed squeezing in the vice before now

Its a greasy job so weargloves!!

That's why I gave a link to alternative methods of fixingt
