Our first van we found may have had a bit of a murky past history. The cris numbers had been tampered with on the chassis and the windows. The previous owner had been the one that had to deal with it all and settle with the insurance company. It looked like it had tried to be cloned - the numbers all had been changed slightly to resemble another one that did exist on the windows and chassis. It should have had a tag in it, but we couldn't actually find a way to get it checked as we were told that not all police stations had the gadget to read them, and locally we couldn't get hold of one, and they didn't really seem bothered, as we managed to we think find the correct number for our van and cris confirmed it was all ok. We were told that if we took it abroad the police there usually all had the gadgets and it would be then we would find out if there was a problem. We never intended to go abroad so didn't worry about this.
We had difficultly tallying up the number with the exact model/year as we found that we had one of these big caravan sellers special editions and it was actually an older model that had been rebadged to a special for a particular company. On speaking to manufacturer we tracked its history and found that things did eventually sort of tally. Managed to insure no problem, and luckily when we sold it after a few years it went to family who will probably have it for many years so they are not worried.
When we bought our latest van privately we went to town with everything we could do, think the sellers thought we were a bit mad!! Better safe than sorry!
Good luck with your sale. Looks like buyers may have a big bargaining tool with the price if they do want to buy it.
