Hi

Well we bit the bulletthe other week and orderd our new home on wheels ...can't wait.

We have decided to get a porch rather than full awning for now due to cost and have got it down to two that will fit ideally.

Outdoor Rev Compactalite Pro 400 or Kampa Rally 390

Kampa is slighlty deeper by about 15cms but is about £50-60s more expensive (cost of a carpet).

I do like the look of the internal support pole of the OR having seen a 325 it seemed very rigid.

Whats the thoughts out there ??

Also plan to get the rear pad poles for better seal. Do I need to get the roof support poles ???

Cheers

The 2010 Kampas come with the roof support bars included, although you can buy what they discribe as 'Monsoon poles' as extras but from what we have found with our Kampa 260 is that they are totally unnecessary. However you may like to order a set of the clip on storm guys to attach at the corners of the frame at the same time, which is something we now need to order for ours.

The quality of the Kampa Rally is superb, it fits tight to the van, (although we did buy the rear uprights) and is very easy to erect and adjust the leg heights and tensioners. I would recommend unpacking it before you go away if you do decide to buy one, and just spend a half hour attaching all the pegging ladder type bands to the points, and inserting the poles into the correct combination bundles, then when you get on site the actual setting up will be very quick and easy indeed. Oh and just make sure that the poles with the storm guy clips attached go onto the end corners and dont end up in the middle like we did the first time we pitched!

After buying an Outdoor Rev Techlite One porch  awning ourselves last year, we much prefare this one for fit and quality, and are now looking to sell the once only used Techlite.

We have the Kampa Rally 260 Also and love it. We have the rear uprights but will be buying the monsoon poles after a wet few days in Windermere. The roof does fill up with water depending on how the wind is blowing, and the monsoon poles would prevent any build up of water better.

We thought it was very good quality, fitted the van tightly, and enables DH to put it up on his own whilst I get the inside set up and make lunch/tea, get the kettle on and entertain the kids in peace!

We were away last week and finally got to try out our new awning..the Outdoor Revolution Compactalite pro 400...

Mark insisted on puttin it up himself..while i was busy sortin out the inside of the van...thats our usual routine...

I heard him say somethin about a jigsaw puzzle and was worried that he was struggling..i checked to see how he was gettin on and the awning was nearly up...i thought it looked fab and was a really good size..

The only downside to the awning was.. the rear support poles...these poles are sposed to sit against the padding that sits against your van..holding it there to stop any draughts..the adjustment clamps on these poles were inadequate and wouldnt hold the poles when tensioned..so we left the rear poles out..but will be contacting the retailer to discuss this problem...

We looked at the Kampa..but the OR one has a better quality material and a better claimed hydrostatic head...

The awning held up to some pretty severe conditions during the week and we are very pleased with it..

We also bought the compactalite pro 400 have used it once only , stood up to high winds not much flapping about certainly better than the suncamp scenic it replaced . No problem with rear support poles . The internal webbing on the floor is a trip hazard & doesn't even have pegging points on it . I covered it with a breathable groundsheet but wouldn't usually use it if grass pitch is in good condition . The only problem i noted was the condensation on the inside of the roof in the morning . One good shake & it was raining inside ! Wish i'd spent the extra money & bought a combi awning :-(

Did you have your vents open like we did?

Another thought...is your fridge vent on that side of the van? As this could cause condensation..luckily ours is on the other side....

All roof vents were left open , fridge is on other side of van . It was a frosty morning i'm giving it the benefit of the doubt i was hoping to use it at Easter but the poor weather & saturated ground put me off using it . I don't feel there is much difference between the compactalite & the kampa rally versions both are very similar .

Thanks for the responses. I do have to agree with Rob that there is not much between them. I am now swaying to the Kampa 390, as I do like the idea of the mesh on the side doors where the OR does not have this.

The OR does look to have vents built in at the top but I can't see any on the Kampa ? Does it have anywhere the pics you see on line don't show, or does it not need any ?

Just need to find a blue in stock !!!

Thanks

We have a Kampa (but it's the Fiesta, not the 390) and we have had an Outdoor Revolution (a Spacelight, not Compactalite).  We prefer the quality of the Kampa awning - it's the most substantial lightweight awning we've had (and we'vehad a few!).  This is our personal opinion - I'm sure there would be those who would say the opposite.
