Well think you'll have probably read my tale of woe by now about the damp sprite and how were back on the hunt again.

Basically we've no more than £2500 to spend want a clean damp free van preferably with an awning. I understand I'm gonna be looking at an older van but would like nothing older than a 1993 and it needs to be 4 berth.

Is this possible or should I expect a bit of scruff and damp in vans of this age.

Oh if only I had my own wizard to fix things!!

we picked up our 1995 sterling 5 berth for £2700 3 yrs ago off ebay, everything included and more! we did look around it before bidding along with many others, i wouldn't be happy buying blind.

The van is superb, i have found a slight leak in the front corner this winter but nothing serious, I just need to re-seal one of the outside strips ( I hope!) similar vans from the dealers were up for £4000+ infact my dad bought a dealer van (with nothing with it at all ) for more money for an older van and the back end was rotten through and this was a reputable (supposedly) main dealer, it went in for major warranty repairs and 3 yrs later its full of leaks again, he's not happy at all.

I would always buy privately but always do my homework, full inspections etc before parting with cash and if the buyer doesnt look right or looks like they don't look after things walk away.

we are perfectly happy with ours and when we look round new vans we cannot see much difference it fixtures and fittings, infact some things seem to get flimsier and worse on newer vans, so I don't think i could ever warrant spending a fortune on something that we only use 2-3 times a year

I'm sure it's possible, probably easier privately in which case you'll probably get all the kit thrown in as well.  There are several on the free ads on this site.

A 2 berth would be cheaper. Good luck.

It is possible , I got one yesterday, 1995 but honestly for a 15 yr old van , you couldnt tell the difference if it was a 5 or 10 year old , it it really is a minter . it came with an apache porch awning , which has a standard and a tall annexe , innner tent, plus a full trio awning , and every accesssory including as new microwave , toaster ,electric coolbox , hookup , gas, aquaroll,, 2 waste containers, windbreaks , loads of stuff. only thing missing is the instructions for the awning annexes , but I'm sure I'll work it out eventually.(3 hours in the garden tonite and still not sure I've sussed it )bits left over.
Keep looking , you will find one .

I didnt want to spend a lot an a van because i change my mind a lot. This is my 5 th van and umpteenth tent in the last 10 years . I do however want something that is clean , not damp , and that everything works as described and seen working .
if they tell you the hot water dont work , but its a dry , clean van and your happy with the price , boil a kettle to wash the dishes . fair dinkum ,

I have 8 grandkids under 6 and dont want a van where i have to be constantly telling them , *dont touch *
obviously when lookin at cheaper vans you may find that you will see faults that you are willing to overlook , like window stays not working or broken off , (the only thing i can find fault with in this one )things like this you can replace if you want to cheaply enough or not bother if you dont think it mattters much. i probably wont bother as i most likely sell it next year and go back to a tent ?

I was looking in the 1500 bracket , but everything we viewed was just a heap of rubbish , I 'd have been doing them a favour by taking it away on some .Some actually stank of damp , but they would say , NO DAMP TO MY KNOWLEDGE . are these people on another planet , or relying on the fact that some people have no sense of smell ? this one was under 2, 500

Oh yeah and while I was looking , hubby said, stop trying so hard , if its meant to be , it will be , and one will pop up around the corner , and yes, he was right , this one was about 2 miles away .
