Just come back from the maiden voyage in our new girl very nice indeed, however we took the full awning which we kept from our last van as the new girl didn't have one ( lucky it fits perfect) but it's so old and heavy it's an old bradcot and we get so fed up putting it up as we don't use half of it when it's just two of us so we are looking for a porch awning lightweight easy to put up for our shoes and bits that we don't want in the van,so any suggestions on porch awnings ease of put up a bility lightness ect would really be appreciated
cheers all
Donna :)
We have a Sunncamp Scenic to use on winter trips when we need somewhere for shoes, coats etc... but don't need room to sit in it. Really quick & easy to put up - basically only 3 poles & can be done single handed in about 20 minutes. It's been rained on several times & not leaked but has never been tested in high winds.
We also had a 260 type awning with the last van but with the new one we've had to buy the 390 (Kampa Rally) as with the smaller one the awning warmer was outside the awning as it wasn't long enough. We've not had the 390 up yet but it's the same to put up as the 260 with an extra pole for the extra section. The 260 was roomy enough for a table & chairs as well as other bits n bobs. Easy to put up & stayed dry in heavy rains.
we had a sunncamp ultima 260 which is about as easy an erection as you will get and we found it very satisfactory. Always loads on ebay at good prices.
I've tried quite a few, from the Towsure range, Royals etc., but landed on the Porchlite XL from Outdoor Revolution - see the range here.
The Porchlite is quick and easy to put up, very light weight and quick drying + easy to pack. Never leaked (unlike some others I tried) and has a generally better build quality to those I tried; well worth a look. In fact, we're selling our Bradcot and getting a Compactalite 250 as an alternative to the XL.
We've got the Sunncamp 260. Really easy to put up, I do it on my own, while she sorts the inside out. Has stood up well in high winds when others were out with their mallets in the middle of the night. Has plenty of room for the two of us to sit and a bit to spare and only £150
Sunncamp Vision XL. Quick to put up (10 mins if your lucky!) and you can even do it on your own, its a bit bigger than a traditional porch awning (hence the XL!) so a bit more room. Wont break the bank to purchase.
We love it!
------------- Enjoying caravanning, realising what an expensive hobby it is and spending the family’s inheritance before they can get their hands on it!
We have a Bradcot full awning. Wonderful job, but, as you say, to put up for just the two of us can be a bit of a bind. For the longer holiday ideal but for shorter trips we prefer to carry a Star Camp magnum 390. You do need a very straight awning rail of that length to fit it up properly but they do a 260 as well. £195.00 for the 390 and £159 for the 260 last time I looked. Does the job. Dry area for when you get back with the dog. Somewhere for the wet shoes and plenty large enough to sit out in if you want to.
Find somewhere that has the ranges mentioned on this thread erected. Easier to choose that way

------------- If you're not on a fell your wasting your feet and for 2014 it's.......Feb Castleton Mar North Yors Moors; Apr Sutton on Sea; May Thirsk; Jun Clapham/Riverside (Lakes); July Wharfedale; August Crakehall; Sept Knaresborough; Oct Wirral Park/Clitheroe
Thanks all so much, there are so many to choose from it's nice to ask before you buy one.
The bradcott we have is great if we are staying long and if people are visiting us on site but for weekends with no children it's a pain to put up it takes longer than un hitching and getting the caravan level ect, plus those poles when falling on head tend to hurt some what and it always leads to grumblings and a few swear words lol
I shall browse the old bay and have a look I quite fancy the xl as I can still pop the wet dog in there
thanks all again
Take a look at the Kampa Fiesta. It's my flavour of the month at the moment. We have had several lightweights, including Sunncamp 390, Outdoor Revolution Spacelight and Sunncamp Scenic etc. - we have found the Kampa Fiesta better than all these. It is like a 'traditional awning, but with lightweight material but steel poles for stability. All panels zip out and you can buy bed compartments to fit on the side if required. The poles fit to the van by using the extremely safe 'quick-lok' type system. It is a roomy awning and is as quick to put up as the others.
I have the Scenic as well but just bought the Sunncamp Swift 2010 - £56!!!! Being squarer and bigger its ideal. Its on the awnings.co.uk website if interested.
I got a Pyramid Weekender Plus - 2 poles and its up in 20 minutes . Didnt have a lot of choice as my old van had a low awning rail height - so I'm hoping that it fits my new van - unfortunately I busted my knee falling instead of skiing the other week so not had the chance to get away in the new van yet
Roll on when I can drive again!

The 260/390 awnings are great and really easy to put up. Might as well go for the biggest one (390).

I have to say we got rid of our 390 because we felt it was awkward, not only because it had four flexible fibre poles, but because there was such a lot of material to cope with. I know it's only a light weight, but I always preferred to put up our full awning, where you could zip out the sides. The sides didn't zip out of the 390. Perhaps we didn't quite get a system sorted out for putting it up. In comparison the Kampa Fiesta is easy, but I'm sure that's just us. A case of one man's meat is another man's poison, I'm sure. (If I've remembered the expression correctly!!)
Thanks for all your help and advice, we finally chose the sunncamp scienic, looks ok only our next trip in two weeks will tell, who knows I may end up buying another lol
As DSB says one mans meat ect
cheers all again
