thanks for the advice but where will we find the fuse fot the fridge, and how do we know if there is power going into the fridge? and how do we get to the element

The point about it being level is important our drives only slopes a little but it won't work if there is too much tilt - this is normal.

Otherwise it does sound as if the 240v element has gone, unless you are a confident DIY'er you are better getting a mobile technician out to it. Besides anything else there are gas and electric connections to contend with.
