Hi,

Im after some advice about the poles matching other awnings, we have the bradcot easy up alloy poles, however our bradcot active awning has seen better days and we are looking at changing. We have been looking at a change, a dorema awning, my question is, a) are they any good and b) will the easy up poles fit another awning, for example are they universal.

I shall look forward to your replies and thanks in advance for your assistance.

regards

barry

Hi, we also have a Bradcot awning with the EAL poles.  Earlier in the year when we changed caravan we thought about purchasing a new awning.  We went to Towsure to look at their Insignia awning, i believe these are made by Dorema for Towsure.  They have an alloy frame but in our opinion it was not as easy as the Bradcot system and was also a mixture of alloy and some steel parts.  The fabric of the Insignia and also the Dorema awnings did not feel as such good quality (shiny like a cheap suit) but then this maybe because they were new and not weathered.

We also looked into whether we could use our EAL frame with the Insignia/Dorema and it did look feasible, as the frame supplied was not as good quality as the one we already have.

Maybe worth taking a trip to Towsure to compare for yourselves.

Regards Janette

If the awnings are of similar sizes in all directions and the frames of similar design it might work. Most frame systems are adjustable for length. Dodgy bit might be the detail around the front canopy where there are probably some short pole extensions.

We had a Bradcot awning some years ago - we loved it.  When we changes our van we bought a Dorema, and apart from the quick-lok system, where the poles fitted to the van, we were less pleased.  There are many on here who like Dorema.  When our van + awning was stolen, we bought a Eurovent.  I think I like the material better on the Eurovent (and the pegging points), but the system for connecting the poles to the van is not as substantial as the Dorema.

It may not be easy to pick up a new awning without poles (I'm guessing here), but if you have fibre poles on the Bradcot, it might be worth purchasing an awning with steel poles and replace them with the older fibre poles, if they fit.  Also, the fibre poles that are supplied with the Dorema awning don't seem as substantial as the poles we had with our old Bradcot and new Eurovent.  These more substantial poles (the same as those supplied with the Isabella range) may be a better bet, but, as someone else has pointed out, check the canopy in particular and especially if there are 'spikes' on the end of some of the awning poles.  There may be a mis-match between whether there are spikes or not.

Edit: Sorry, I have just realised you have the Bradcot Easy System poles, so my comments about fibre poles are largely irrelevant.  Check the spikes though.  Apologies!

Dorema have a full display of their awnings at Castleford. Blowed if I could tell the difference between them all, but they had the Montana on discount at the time.

Worth noting though, there was no discount/benefit to collecting from them, just the opportunity to see what it would look like if I ever put it up correctly!!
