Good evening everyone!  When we were at Knaresborough CC site last summer, one gentleman who I met when filling the aquaroll had a large funnel which he used to fill the container directly from the water pipe, thus eliminating the need for a filler pipe.  Does anyone else use this method and, if so, could you please let me know where we can buy one which is large enough for this purpose.

Thanking you.

Weve got one, its bright orange and very large, we bought it at the boatyard, comes in handy on some sites especially those with screw threads on the taps, seen others do it this way as well.

These flexi funnels would probably be good for that.

Take 1 x 1 litre or bigger plastic pop bottle. Lop the bottom off and make 2 small holes opposite each other at the bottom. Pass string through the holes and knot on the inner side. Allow sufficient length on the string to cater for average height taps. Discard the lid.

When you wish to fill your aquaroll hang string over tap to hold the funnel you just created in place and locate the bottle top end in the aquaroll.

We find a 2l cider bottle works best. Down side is you have to drink the cider

I have a two foot length of rigid plastic water pipe, about 1.5in diameter (cost about 50p from a DIY shop). In one end is the rubber "cup" end from the flexible filler tube (about .5in diameter) supplied with the Aquaroll. Rubber end pushes onto tap, which can be opened fully without either being blown off by water pressure or squirting water backwards.

There are all kinds of ways of filling an Aquaroll (or similar) but the flexible plastic pipe supplied is rarely the best.

Go to an agricultural engineers shop & you'll find plenty of funnels to choose from & be able to get a decent size bucket. I use both to fill our aquarols up. It saves taking the aquarol away from the caravan. My funnel is a bit big though, I have to lean it against the caravan when pouring the water in.

I leave the bucket full as a fire bucket & also find it handy to have it full if the OH & our girls decide to see how fast they can use the water in the shower without warning me.

For years before this I've used a length of plastic drain pipe with a piece of elastic across the top to hold the tap open & a notch cut in the bottom of it to allow water a free flow. Then you can stand the aquarol under the tap & let it fil itself. I prefer the bucket & funnel though.

Sorry I don't have a suggestion, but I really need to get my eyes checked I could of sworn the title said funeral for an aquaroll, I thought how odd for a cracked water container to need a funeral lol
I think I should perhaps go to bed I must be tired

Thanks to everyone for their replies - all of which  are very useful - well most anyway!!!  However, feel slightly concerned for Murano (!!) as I do love my caravan but would possibly draw the line at conducting a funeral for an aquaroll but suppose it could start a trend - or perhaps not!!  Thanks again.

Hi Basilbrush ,
, I'm a bit confused by this post . Surely the point of having an aquaroll is not having to carry heavy water containers?

do you mean that you carry buckets of water all the way from the tap (which may be at the other end of the field ), back to the caravan to avoid moving the aquaroll away from the caravan , and then pour the bucket of water through a funnel ?
and you find that easier ?
I just don't get it ? I must be missing something here ?

I dont understand why you would want a big non flexible, takes up loads of room funnel when the flexi filler does the trick perfectly well?

Or am I missing out on something?!

I understand the part about using the funnel, and will try with a pop bottle next time .

I have had trouble getting the rubber end piece of the filler hose to go on some taps properly and stay there without it being blasted off , (and soaking me) if the water comes out too fast.
its the carrying buckets and not moving the aquaroll from the van I don't understand

I find not turning the tap on full works well in that instance! ;)

I've made something similar to what Viggo described - I used a length of (new, so clean!) waste pipe, drilled a couple of holes in one end and threaded a piece of guy-rope through with a squeeze-toggle to adjust it.  Hang it over the tap, adjust the length of the string, put the other end in the aqua-roll, turn tap on a full as you like (won't blow off) and just watch the world go by while the barrel fills up - simples!

Hello Debbie

I don't see why you'd be confused. The OP asked if anyone else used a funnel to fill the aquaroll & where he could get a funnel.

My reply simply advised the best place to find a range of funnels & decent sized buckets to choose from is a place where folk who use funnels would buy one.

Basilbrush - sorry I failed to mention in my earlier post to clean out the pop / cider bottle prior to using it for this purpose.

Bigger diameter bottles are better because even if the tap has a tendency to splash it has a much bigger target to hit than with a pipe and less chance of splashing me shoes!
