Went to see an Avondale Perle today 1993 5 berth looked great on the photos not so great on the damp meter!!!

Guy was really nice who was selling it, let us look around on our own (  I hate it when people hover!) when I asked if there was any damp he said not to his knowledge but that we were welcome to poke around as much as poss.

It was a bit spongy where the wall meets the ceiling and then when I looked under the beds and felt under the vinyl it was actually wet!

So back on the hunt again.

I'd start looking at German 'vans if you want something dry in your price range.

Hard to believe he didn't know about the damp.

There are lots of dry vans out there. Keep looking and one will come along soon.

Buy a dampmeter ,it makes things so much easier and "speaks" for itself. We did this search last year and . like you, were shocked at all the "dry" vans which upset the meter and often the seller.

German vans tend on the whole to be of a far better build quality, also most have the door on the opposite side form UK vans. We initally wanted a German van but couldn't find the layout we wanted in our price range.

Adria caravans tend to be well built; what is your price range?

I brought a Abi Marauder 2 400CT but I knew it had damp but it was not to bad, nearly fixed it now.

When looking at the caravan inspect the awning rails carefully as when they fail they start to almost tear away from the caravan. People then have a habit of using silicone sealent to try and fix the van which is a nightmare to clean off to do a proper job!!

Its a tight budget!! Got up to £3000 and would like to get something with an awning included in that price.

quite fancy this one but guy on phone did say he'd damaged a seal pressure washing it.

German vans - Knaus, Fendt, Tabbert - all good vans - most tend to be too wide for UK towing unless towed by commercial vehicles. Often used for permantent sites or travellers. Is this because the quality is better? or because they are larger in size?
We were after a Fendt as the gypsies in France were all in Fendts and thought, if they are good enough to live in, they must be good!
Good theory but gave up in the end! Very happy with our Elddis although still have dreams about becoming a gypsy in France and getting a Fendt.....

Fairly nice hobby German van..

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HOBBY-DE-LUX-TOURING-CARAVAN-4-5-BERTH-1994_W0QQitemZ220585510631QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Campers_Caravans_Motorhomes?hash=item335bebc6e7

One thing to note is thatGerman caravans tend to only have cold water, but a hot water heater can be added fairly easily afetrwards
