We were trying to move our caravan into the driveway with the motormover and the jockey wheel collapsed and now the caravan is sitting on the jockey wheel. We are unable to move the jockey wheel up or down and therefore cannot move the caravan. Any suggestions as to how to resolve this
If you mean the jockey wheel has just slid down its clamp & nothing broken, lift the caravan up on the front corner steadies, ok not the best of ideas, but do it gradually one side, then 'tother bit by bit, should get you out of trouble. It would be better tho to jack up front if you have a jack then wind down front steadies. When its up a bit you should be able to tighten clamp & wind up jockey wheel.
If jockey wheel is busted just keep raising caravan on steadies or jack until level, then you will be able to fit a new jockey wheel.

PLEASE don't use the steadies to lift the 'van, even 'carefully' - it's very easy to twist the chassis of push the legs through the caravan floor. Use a car jack (the scissor-type will do the job) under the A-frame as close to the jockey-wheel as possible to raise the front end. Keep winding the legs down to steady the 'van as you go, but don't use them to actually lift it.
You could also try to "counter-balance" it with something heavy in the rear, then wind down the front steadies.
If the wheel itself is broken then you will need a new one. Maybe get a "heavy duty" one, the mover does put extra stress on the wheel. A pneumatic one helps too.
The steadies arn't that weak, plenty jack the caravan up with them. Obviously not a good idea regularly as it stresses the seals. but it won't hurt if you are careful. The caravan will flex more hitting potholes at 60mph.
Thanks for your replies, we have now managed, by putting the steadies down, to get the jockey wheel up and back into positions. Now our confidence is shot and I am not sure if there is a probelm with the jockey wheel or it was just us forgetting to tighten it before moving.
The next question is - when we are moving it along with the motor mover the jockey wheel handle is moving with the wheel - should this be happening and will it be moving the jockey wheel up and down. Or because it is now clamped does the handle move wiht the jockey wheel without moving the caravan up and down? We have never noticed the jockey wheel handle moving before when we were moving it with the motor mover
Dear Kellogs
I have new Bucaneer Caravel £27k
I have been dogged with the jockey wheel collapsing and van falls to ground. It is even more frightening when moving it from my drive into the road. Twice I have blocked traffic for more than an hour
I have bought three new jockey wheels, seven clamps and three tyres( now semi soft)
If I don't tighten clamp the stem collapses through the clamp, if I overtighten the clamp fasteners rip open
I believe this van is too front heavy and Glossop Caravans nor Eldiss do anything to help

Have you been using pneumatic jockey wheel the whole time? Try changing to solid tyre jockey wheel & see how that goes. It would also help if you could put some weight in the back while using mover, perhaps just get somebody to stand in the back?
larger pneumatic tyres roll better than solid ones but a motor mover puts extra stress on the whole jockey wheel assembly.. it may be worth considering having a ribbed heavy duty one fitted the standard ones are not that strong.. the backwards and forwards stresses (more so when the wheel isnt fully lined up with the vans direction) loosens the clamp mechanism and it can collapse..
it could be said that normal jockey wheels are not really up to the job they have to do on larger vans.. you can buy heavy duty trailer ones.. it also helps to wind the front down as far as you can whilst moving the van.. less leverage on the clamping assembly then..
reich do a kit which consists of a longer axle to put thu plastic jockey wheel and 2 larger pneumatic wheels that fit on both ends of the axle, secured with spring clips.as the nose weight of my van is 125 kgs it rolls very easy in the storage shed and when i hook up i unclip both wheels and store until i need jockey wheel down again. just checked towsure sell it,reich easy wheel double jockey wheel upgrade kit. £55
Notwithstanding the fact the original question is getting on for 5 years old, id say its important to make sure the shaft swivel isnt 'locked'. Thats to say the wheel is free to move in any direction with the caravan. If the wheel is within the 'slots' on the shaft base, it wont freely swap direction. If the clamp is good ('opening out' sounds to be a cheap version) and the tyre is a decent width - pneumatic or solid, the assembly should do its job. Lowering the nose shouldnt be necessary, assuming the van isnt front heavy.
If the van is on the floor there will be too much weight to use the steadies to lift the van, use a jack.
They are just steadies and not jacks, you will cause damage.
