Our first camping trip nearly put us off. We stayed at a site that was supposed to be one of the best in the new Forest (sandy balls) but we found everybody was too involved with themselves, it was so unfriendly we were glad we only stayed for 3 days . We had a horrendous job puttig our tent up and didnt have one offer of help until the ranger took pity on us and helped us (after 3 hours of struggling) In fact he even called over to a lady opposite to say it was thirsty work but she just gave him a dirty look and dissapeared back in her tent. We decided to give camping one more try and went on the Chy Carme meet last year, what a difference!! we had help galore, a cup of tea in our hands almost immediately and we have never felt so welcome. We are now in the process of buying a TTent off someone on here which hopefully wont be as difficult to put up as our old tent and a lot more comfy. We came to the conclusion that because Sandy balls is a bit pricey and the majority near us were in pre erected tents that they werent 'real' campers at all just stuck up types from London who thought they would experience the good old outdoors so we just put that down to experience (oh and hope i dont offend any Londoners here but as an ex Londoner myself I can get away with saying it)

What Im trying to say is that its so much better to go with people on a ukcampsite meet or with people that you might have met on here briefly, even if it is just to say hello to or have a glass of wine with!!!!

Thanks Annie! I think you might be right!

If we'd known when you were at Sandy Balls we'd have come to help you - my girls have their swimming lessons there as it's just a few minutes away from us. Never seen their camping facilities though!

Hi Annie.  Why not send for a couple of UKcampsite stickers.  They are free if you send a stamped addressed envelope.  See here: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/membershop/stickeronly.asp .  You don't see many of them about at the moment.  We ought to try and change that.

Best wishes
