I would like to change from the Calor 4.5Kg (blue) butane to the 6Kg (red) propane Calor Lite but the bottle connection is different. Can I buy an adaptor and if so where? or will I need to buy a new pigtail?
Thanks John, thats a pity, my Cadac runs off the same bottle and it will mean a new regulator for that. I also have a back-up Camping Gaz 907 that I use in France with an adaptor if the Calor runs out. Maybe too much faffing about to bother changing.
I guess all things are relative but the benefits of the lite bottle (less weight and the ability to use it during winter caravanning (when switching from butane)) outweighs the <£10 cost of the pigtail, £6 cost of a new propane regulator and a couple of minutes swapping them over.
We also use the 907 for the cadac so you could continue to use that setup rather than disconnect the propane bottle each time, saving the need for the propane reg.
Dave, what year is your Bailey?
The regulator on my 2007 500/5 is suitable for both Butane and Propane and only has need for the pigtail to be changed; I've already swapped from butane to CalorLite and my dealer supplied one of each pipe with the van.
Extract from Bailey 2007 user manual ... "The gas regulator has a working pressure of 30mbar and is suitable for both propane and butane liquefied petroleum gas. There are dedicated hoses available for different types of gas/bottle..."
Good reasoning Wilkolad, and perhaps the 1.5 Kgs of extra gas may well see me through my three week hols in France without resorting to the Camping Gaz bottle and I would have my original pigtail to go back to if I needed to.
Its a 2009 model G7ACU, so no trouble with the on-board regulator. My dealer gave me the choice but I thought wrongly as it turns out, that similar connectors were used throughout the Calor range. I am tempted to switch as there are more benefits than disadvantages.
we now use calorlite and the change is well worth doing as the weight is only half of the old bottles and being propane (red) you can use it all year round.we can now carry two bottles not one.the weight of a full calorlite red is 10 kgs or 22 lbs.strange thing is last year it was £22 and last week it was only £19.50 at a CClub site.see
Swapped our van gas from butane to propane on advice from several club members ages ago.
Great. Changed to a calorlite when they came out.
Only carry one though cos it lasts us for months.
Paid £18.50 for the last one. ( Oct last year)
I have been planning to get a Calorlite cylinder. At the moment I use 7kg Butane and heard that Calor will exchange this for a new Calorlite. Is this true cos my local dealer (hardware shop) says it will mess up his stock and Calor will charge him!!
