Read in the top tip section of a caravan mag that spraying furniture polish on the awning rail of the van will make the awning slide along easier.
Has anyone tried this and is it safe to spray on the rail or could it damage it?

you can buy a silicon spray which is a bit better but costs £6 a can you can get a large can of furniture polish from the £ shop just make sure they contain silicon it should say on the front of the can.
Just don't be tempted to polish the anodised aluminium rail "whilst your at it".
That potentially could do a lot of harm if the polish has any abrasive base [like car polishes].
If you buy the spray on awning rail lubricant just be careful to wipe any drips pf it that may drip onto the windows post haste. I did not notice them and it left me with deep croacks in the window that would not polish out.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
I use a silicon spray and find it excellent... image a carry-on-camping scene of someone threading an awning and it flying straight off the other end ... .
My in-laws tried the polish trick, but be careful of the type you use for this as the 'waxy' ones can congeal and leave gunky residue in what is, an awkward place to clean.
We have used original Pledge spray polish for this purpose for many years without any problems, just hold the nozzle close to the gap and wipe away any thats left on the outside of the rail as you go, and yes indeed, you may need awning stops afterwards!

That'll do the trick, but just bear in mind Janus's mention of mopping any drips.
I've not experienced the problem they've mentioned, but if even one bod has, it's worth being cautious.
We got one of those awning rail brushes, and then spray furniture polish onto the brush before running it through the rail. Much less messy, and more economical too!
