Hi

Read in the top tip section of a caravan mag that spraying furniture polish on the awning rail of the van will make the awning slide along easier.

Has anyone tried this and is it safe to spray on the rail or could it damage it?

it wont do it any harm at all. there is the right stuff for the job though.

We were recommended GT 85 a silicon based bike spray .   £3.99  available from most cycle shops and some supermarkets

Worked that well that I now need awning stops 

Thanks to Vectatrot these are now on the way to us.

So £ 3.99 for the spray and £5.99 for the stops 

If you buy the spray on awning rail lubricant just be careful to wipe any drips pf it that may drip onto the windows post haste. I did not notice them and it left me with deep croacks in the window that would not polish out.

We have used original Pledge spray polish for this purpose for many years without any problems, just hold the nozzle close to the gap and wipe away any thats left on the outside of the rail as you go, and yes indeed, you may need awning stops afterwards!

would this do the trick. Going to attempt the awning on my own next weekend (with assistance from the 18 month old) so anything to make it easier.
