Hi there,
well we have taken the plunge and purchased this -
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220591877633&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
(even though they havent taken it off the listing yet.)
Owner was young lady who had no clue how anything worked etc, and on a whim we have purchased it.
However.....We have no idea how anything works in it, where anything is, what it does or how to do it.
Ill start with what we do know -
It has a cassete toilet.
It allegedly has hot water.
We found what looks like a small boiler under one of the chairs in a foam insulator.
.
Questions for those in the know are -
Whats the best way to load the van for going on trips, I hear lots of talk on nose weight, 85%rule this that and the next and to be honest I havent a clue.
The water system,no idea where to connect it, what to connect, where it goes etc. for example if i connect a aqua role to the van , where does it go? when its conected does it full the boiler via and also feed the cold water taps etc?
the toilet compartment, where do the chemicals go? do i fill it with water anywhere?
there is switches etc inside for traumatic heater , it has a carver gas fire and the fridge has numbers on it too for settings.
I need to get a gas bottle for it, do i rent one then have it filled?
I appologise in advance as these questions dont paint a very good picture of my ignorance of caravans but I thought it best to ask.
P.s. how do i find out what model of eldis this is so i can buy an awning for it as we never got the one that was supposed to come with it as Im not sure what size etc you buy .
many thanks.

The short answer, if not the most complete, is to get hold of a Haynes Manual on caravanning. It has some good basic tips which, along with the caravan users manual, should let you have a fun weekend at home trying everything out.

Or, find a local caravanner and lure him/her along with an offer of whisky/wine and pick their brains.

Hi there, my dad has an aqua roll, so once filled stands behind the caravan on its end. Only rolls for filling :) Should feed all the water system!

Is there a chassis number or a plate anywhere, look all places inside cupboards, the storage box etc. Should tell you info on it?

Gas will run off of any gas bottle, just make sure you have the right regulator for it.

Awnings well that depends what you want it for. If you want it as living space then you need a large one and will possibly need the model, or the length of your van to purchase one. If you want a porch, towsure had some good deals on those last year as my dad got one.

Sorry not sure about cassette toilet. Chemicals usually go in the bottom, clean water in the top. Take it the cassette out and have a look and try google :)

I like Millermicm's suggestion - with all the queries you have you'd be far better off trying to entice one of the good natured local 'vanners' round for a cuppa to go through it all with you. Would be worth consulting with someone in the know too, in case you get the wrong gas.

Just curious what you're towing this with, plus also curious at the sellers statement on fleabay of "..all work perfect", but couldn't help you to sort it

This link to Eldiss Owners might help in identifying your 'van.     If not, the (full) awning size is based on the distance from the ground, along the awning rail and back to the ground.     Hope this helps,

Hi Folks,
Just a quick update-
Spent last weekend in it with no problems to report,
figured out how to work everything etc.
Still have no idea what model or year of eldis it is though, any help with where I might look for the model number? are they stamped on the chassis or a plate somewhere?
re-what am i towing it with, I have at the min a Zafira 1.9diesel(the 150bhp) it tows it with no problem this is going in a month though as I have ordered a toyota hilux hl3(2.5diesel) so it should tow it ok too.
Many thanks for the replies.

Hi Tinks forgive me if you already know this. You seem to have worked out how to connect the aquaroll, how to operate the pump & water heater BUT please be sure that when connecting the water open the hot tap & do not switch on the water heater until the water runs from the tap with no spluttering. This indicates the water heater is full & it is safe to turn on the electric heater or light the gas without damaging the boiler. If using gas to heat the water be sure to remove the gas vent cover on the outside also, before you try to light the gas

Hi on the listing it says 1990 and I think that looks the right age for her, looking at her interior as my last van was a 91 and very similar internally, lovely van a very pretty girl :)

I wonder if it's a 1990 Elddis Tornado, not 100% sure but it rings a bell, going to do a bit of searching for you, I love playing poirot lol

It could also be a Tornado but given a different name as a dealer special, sometimes dealers sell a van than is a particular van but give it a special name and different decals and interiors.

Yes, they either forgot to remove the listing or didnt bother.
having met the people we bought it off, I suspect the latter.
Is there any caravan breakers yards in scotland does anyone know?
thanks.
