Hi Mark

I picked up my new Caravan last week it is fitted with a Phantom Tracker. I registered the day I got the Van and once that was done they told me exactly where I was even saying that I was at the end of the row on a site.
I hope that is the only time that I need to speak to them except to renew cover.

Mine is stored on a CASSOA Silver site.I know that if it is stolen from a services I will get a phone call within 2 minutes, and they will be able to pin point where it is. Hopefully I will never get that call.

When our last caravan was stolen from our drive, it was found because the police were following a tracker signal looking for a stolen Senator. Our caravan was found in the same place as it along with aother aravan & a number of other stolen vehicles.

This is only my/our opinion, but I personally wouldn't want a tracker in our caravan simply because I wouldn't want it back after the filth who stole ours had been in it. I wish they'd never found ours, we kept it for a few months after it was returned to us but we didn't feel the same about it & decided to sell it.

I've got a tracker in my lorry, I don't know if the ones in caravans are paid for the same way but I paid a life of ownership fee for mine & it's monitored 24/7. When I sell it, the new owner will have the option to pay again to have the tracker activated. I would want the lorry back because it pays the bills but the caravan just never felt right after they'd had it for a day.

I know exactly how you feel.  Once ours had gone we didn't want it back.  'Fortunately' it was never recovered and we had a new van from the insurance company.  The only thing I really regret loosing was my Father's old wooden mallet - useful for banging in the awning pegs - it was of sentimental value.

I stepped into my caravan today and got a phonecall from the tracker company to tell me that they had spotted movement in my van.

Normally I do not switch off the system unless I am actually moving the van but today it must have gone into super sensitive made.

However, it is nice to know that such a small amount of movement will activate the tracker system.

As to whether it is worth it or not, well I am saving over £200 a year on my van insurance because I have the tracker system fitted

We use Phantom and they are brilliant.

When our van goes in for a service I leave the tracker on and I know when they move it into the workshop (about 20m) because Phantom ring me up to say that it is moving

And of course there has been the odd occasion where we forgot to turn it off and moved the van

I've just renewed ours for £349 for 5 years or you can have an annual renewal for £99 per year. Insurers give a discount if one is fitted so works out about the same.

Even if you didn't want the van after it was stolen, at least there is a good possibility of the thieves being caught red-handed and preventing fellow caravanners going through the same trauma.

The tracker is not just about getting the caravan back but arresting the scum who steal them so they do not (wishful thinking)steal any more for the few weeks they get community service.

Hi there can someone advise re the following - we are looking at Trackers and as we would be keeping our brand new caravan on the drive we feel a tracker would be essential.  I was very impressed with the package offered with Phantom Proactive but my hubby says that we would be better using Tracker as this is who the police use so there would be a better chance of a very quick response by the police.  Is this true as I have heard and read a lot of good things about Phantom?

I don't know anything about tracker, but Phantom work with the Police. Without checking the paperwork it works like this;
Phantom call you to confirm whether or not you are aware that the van is on the move. If it seems to have been stolen then they keep track of it until you have reported the theft to the police and have a crime\incident number. Phantom then liaise with the police to recover you van.

That is how I understood it to work but it may have changed and Phantom may call the police on your behalf now.

Best to speak to them and get the up to date info.

Hi Knightwarrior, This is the way that all tracker companies work.

Our Tracker was bought through, and fitted by, a company called Driven.

But our Tracker is monitored by a company called SmartTrack.

With SmarTrack you can make a one off (for life) payment, which we did and last year we upgraded this to cover the whole of Europe.

With the savings I get on my insurance because of the Tracker System, I will have saved the cost of the unit and the tracking service within 3 years.

Tracker and I mean the real Tracker and not the generic name for them is the only company who are solely used and operated by the British Police Force, A large amount of police vehicles have the abiltity to track stolen vehicles with on board equipment, including all police helicopters.

Other companies liase with the police but do not have the ability or their own equipment fitted to police vehicles.

The genuine tracker is the only way to go!

Things may of changed in an ever increasing market, but doubt it.

We had a Phantom tracker fitted to our van when we bought it a couple of years ago.

Last year, I inadvertantly drove off without disarming the tracker. Within a quarter of a mile the Phantom control centre were on the phone to us telling us our van was on the move. Very embarrasing for me but it proved just how efficient they are
