Pitched at one of our favourite sites last weekend.
Excellent as usual. Along with the comprehensive brochures to take and some books and dvd's to borrow whilst on site, were some Caravan Club magazines. Jan,Feb,and March . Interesting. Two items stood out.
Firstly......Van width. Apparently the max width of a van towed by a vehicle with a GVW of up to 3500kg has increased from 2.3 to 2.55 metres.
The article which covered this, a write up of a new Italian van told readers that the flush window prototype had been abandoned by the maker not only because of this but ,more importantly it stated " The government says that ALL vans WIDER than 2.3 metres are now ZERO Vat Rated !!!!
Second article stated that the Caravan Club's U.K Advanced Booking System had taken 92000 bookings in the first week of January alone !!!! (First come first served without deposits.) It conveniently forgot to mention how many of these had been made by serial no-show block bookers and how many genuine members would be unable to book pitches because of them.. Comments welcome.

Serial no-show block bookers , the club say's it not a problem and the percentage is very low and if you honestly think deposits system will make any difference it will not because the more affluent members will think nothing about shelling out in advance for as many bookings a they want thus leaving the less affluent at a disadvantage . If your not happy with the C.C don't bother renewing you membership

------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
If you read the article and then research the subject you will probably find a vast difference for instance vans over 2.3 metres wide being VAT free - yes they were before April 20th but they are not now - another article I've read is hat caravan owners are now having to pay a new VAT on their vans forced on them by the EU - nice little twist there by a anti EU reporter who neglected to mention that it was only for vans between 2.3 and 2.55 metres and that vans below 2.3 metres already had VAT added.
The CC say that no-shows have gone down due to their policy of no deposit but they have never issued a count for last minute cancellations (to my knowledge) which they count as separate from no-shows and will all the money bags grab all the best pitches for the year? Somehow I don't think so, removing the start date for bookings might alleviate the problem as well...
------------- Caravanning is a way of getting a cheap holiday out of an expensive hobby
