Ah ha, mystery solved. Yes the caravan sales that I like to browse around leave their vans unlocked so cooker knobs etc are removed so it makes sense that other easily removable bits get locked away.

Thank you!! Just got to win the lottery now to buy one!

whenever we've been vanning with the in-laws my MIL washes the plates, glasses and cutlery in the van while us "kids" get sent to the on site facilities with the big messy things in a collapsable crate!!

I tend to use the facilities on site, I've had many interesting conversations with fellow campers from washing up after dinner, sometimes it takes me ages and my OH wonders where I've gone!

As we only have cold water in ouyr van we always use sitre facilities to wash up. Saves anything unpleasant going down the caravan sink too. My husband always finds someone to talk to while washing up and so we usually manage to find out lots of information about the surrounding area at the same time!

We're due to get a new van next month but although it will have the luxury of hot water we'll still be washing up at the site facilities.

I enjoy washing up at the site facilities too. At home I'm on my own in the kitchen & its a chore, at the campsite its good to have company!

Our 2010 Lunar has a sink with a built in drainer i.e smaller version of a normal house type. Far better than the plastic type that store in cupboards when not in use.

Washing up on a site is the highlight of my social calendar! All the best gossip is to be found at such a venue.

We don't do our washing up inside the van. We cater on site 99% of our meals & 6 of us generate a lot of washing up.

We try to use a big plastic box bought as a laundry/shopping thing & put soapy water in one & clean water to rinse off in a second one. We do this if we're using the awning or if it's nice outside. Otherwise we use on site washing up sinks with our own bowl in them. We carry the stuff over in one of our plastic boxes & rinse in that.

I guess we don't use our caravan facilities anywhere near enough, we do very little cooking in the van, everything is done outside on a Beauclaire (now changed to a Cadac) & using two air grills in the awning on a table.

We have a 2010  Lunar Quasar 462, it has a large stainless steel sink and stainless steel drainer, great for washing up.
