It all depends how reliant on have the telly you are. we just use freeview through the aerial, 9 times out of 10 its no problem, if it doesn't work , tuff, we find something else to do.

We have a satalite thing that we never use cos it's not worth the hassle for a week end. Can always catch up on missed programmes when we get home.

for satellite you need line of sight for satellite to work and if trees in the way then no signal.

THIS is the aerial that we have been using for the caravan for the last 4 years.

It does both horizontal and vertical signals without the need to change over. It actually gives us better reception in the van than we can get at home, yet our house is only a couple of miles from a TV Transmitter.

We've got one of those UFO-type status aerials on the van, which everyone knows is absolute rubbish - managed to get an analogue-only signal at one site out of 4 so far.

So, we bought a satellite kit (£80 from Maplins). Only used it once so far but it was superb - amazing picture and all the Freeview (Freesat) channels you could want...

However, we did have a totally unobstructed view to the sky - our friends who bought one a day later than us were nearer the trees and didn't get as good a picture, although we didn't have much time to play around with it.

We've got a tripod to put it on but it occurred to me this weekend (we were away for the weekend but didn't bother putting it up for a short trip) that I could put it on the caravan roof, by putting my head through the skylight and using the sucker attachment that came with the kit - that should get it high enough to be over most trees...might try that next time if the the tripod doesn't help.
