Never had this before (our 4th trip out) but must remember to wind the jockey wheel up tightly.

Didn't do it this weekend and halfway down the motorway, the wind must have unwound the wheel down! Cue grinding noise as my outfit gained a 7th wheel at 60mph !  Scary stuff - thought I'd broken an axle or something...!

Its important to remember not only to make sure the locking screw is tight but also the handle on top of the jockey wheel is.

I've forgot to wind up thje jockey wheel before, but didn't travel more than a few yards.  Never had one come loose though.  Do you always check to make sure that when you wind up the jockey wheel the bottom bit fits into the cut out grooves on the shaft?  When we first started caravanning, we didn't realize we had to do this, but always check now.

Hope you didn't have too much damage, although I suspect a new jockey wheel may be the order of the day!  Sorry to hear about the problem.

 hi we always remove the jockey wheel when travelling i have made a qd pin so that the hinged part of the bracket comes off as well

Always worth a check round each time you stop as well.

I place a long length of velcro the type that sticks to itself round the jockey wheel and round the a frame it cannot then drop down even if the clamp works loose.
