I have always had traditional awnings on my caravans but as I am now getting on in years and finding them more difficult to put up I wondered whether an Omnistor or Fiamma type of awning was suitable for a caravan.  I know they are popular with motor caravanners and I noticed last weekend in the caravan & camping area at Badminton Horse Trials that it took a neighbour very little time to erect and dismantle a Fiamma F45.

I am considering buying a Pegasus 462  next year and need to replace my awning and would appreciate any advice from anyone who has used this type of awning on a caravan.

I am not keen on the latest generation of pod type awnings and would not consider buying one.

We have had Caravanstores on our last two vans. The beauty is that if you decide not to use it you don't have to store it anywhere. We also have a front and side sun blocker which gives us shade and privacy. Don't know anything about the Omnistor but they look very similar.

We had the Fiamma Caravanstore 2.55 on our Sterling Emerald, like David we had the front and side panels.

On our present van we have a Caravanstore Zip 3.6, which all zips together to give a pretty watertight enclosure.

Both these are manually rolled up into soft bags, rather than the wind in/out type in the solid casing that is used on motorhomes. The solid ones are not so easy to fit to a caravan.

The Fiammas have gone quite expensive these days as they as imported from Italy, not sure about the Omnistores.

These roll out awnings are not as sturdy as the traditional ones, but very easy to erect/dismantle. Also they can be packed away wet as they are made from some sort of plastic material.

They are ideal for touring, we don't use a full awning at all.

I have a Fiamma F45i wind out with a clip system privacy room,it takes about 30 mins all in to get it up,but I think the Fiamma Caravanstore is quicker to put up,last year I watched a couple put theirs up in about 15mins,and I did notice they used a storm strap as I do on ours.

Thank you all for the advice.  It seems a good possibility.  I gather that this type of awning is less stable than the traditional ones.  Is that true?

Less sturdy than a traditional full awning, but probably equal to the other lightweight porches.

We have had our Zip up in pretty windy conditions, I was actualky quite surprised by how sturdy it was.
