My caravan has a blanking plate where an inbuilt DVD player should be. This looks like a standard car stereo size (or what used to be standard). There is also a plate containing phono sockets for l/r audio and (dvd) video i.e red, white and yellow in the TV cabinet above fixed bed.
It is quite a new van and I can only assume the first owner did not take up the option of having this installed.
Can anyone help with the following:-
- I presume (and hope) there is a prewired loom and plug behind this blanking plate?
- What DVD player to buy? Do you have a link?
- There are speaker mesh covers in the front of the van, would the manufacturer have put speakers behind them even if a stereo/dvd option was not purchased?
Yep, it will. As mikecandsarhab hinted, a standrd DIN fitting in-car player will fit with this being the general standard for this type of panel mounting kit. I'd suggest you remove the plate to check what you have, but it's likely the loom will be pre-installed ready as it's not worth not doing so at build.
Most of the in-car DIN mounted players include incorporated screens/monitors, but if you do a search round, there are non-monitor versions available too which have the required outputs you need. They'll usually by Tuner/CD/DVD combined units.
The in-car once have a fail safe built in that wont allow them to play DVD if the engine is running. This makes them unsuitable for caravanning unless the failsafe is bypassed.
the fail safe is only used if you wire it in, and as for the hand brake one, as long as the wire does not get conneted youll be fine, the one in caravans are just the same as car ones.
