I used to be with Green Flag and swapped to AA as they never did any roadside repairs, all they did was get you to the garage the pickup truck was from, anyway we have been happy with AA, but now I have been sent the renewal, and as we now have a caravan I wondered whether to swap back mainly due to their Caravan Club Mayday cover they offer. Has anyone had any experience of this Mayday cover, also do you know if they do any roadside repairs now, as I am sure that is the main reason why people prefer AA or RAC.
I assume they do road side repairs. We are with May Day because they offer the flip flop service, which means if the car breaksdown on the way to holiday they will take us and the car/caravan there, leave us there and then pick us up at the end of our holiday and take us home again. Hope we never have to use it, but it is a reassurance.

I swapped to mayday following daylight robbery renewal price with rac, saved around 130 quid, had a good look at it all and mayday seem best by far, not had to use their services as yet and hopefully will not need to but good safety cushion and piece of mind.
------------- If its not broke, dont fix it, and stop nagging
We are with mayday, having been with another rescue service which we discovered the hard way didn't cover recovering our caravan as it was too long, we were on our way to a rally and car clutch went 5 miles from the rally without any warning. When we rang around Mayday were the only ones that would have rescued our caravan and we also liked the piece of mind of being towed to out site and then recovered home after our holiday (not that we have had to use it yet).
We have had to use Mayday once since being a member and that was due to a flat on the towing car (on route home and still 80 miles away on a Sunday!) and we didn't know if it was safe to put the steel spare on (rest are alloy) and tow, so they sent someone out with tow truck who sorted us out changing the wheel and advising us how far we could travel.
I would swap to CC Mayday together with the CCC offering it is simply the best cover you can get as a caravanner. However, make sure that you take it out through the CC as the green flag alone offering does not have the same guarantees.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
I'm with Mayday and I know a few people who have used them to get to their destination and back home afterwards. Most of the contractors they use are simply recovery companies rather than fitters, but I have never had a problem with them taking me to any destination I wanted. Having had to call them out twice, they have on both occasions taken me to work rather than their own premesis, even though the last time, the lady on the end of the emergency telephone told them I was to be taken home.
I would rather this than have them try to undertake any roadside repairs as I know a few people who have been given horific bills for materials used by both the AA and RAC and still ended up being towed to the nearest garage who gave them yet more bills. I would far rather be with a company who would take you to your choice of destination, whether that be your intended destination or your regular garage.
They may claim to fix 86% of breakdowns at the roadside, but they will not tackle much more than changing a wheel. Unless 86% of callouts are for punctures, I suspect that the contractors are misleading Green Flag or that Green Flag are giving very dubious claims.
Has anyone here ever had a Mayday / Green Flag operative fix their car at the side of the road?
Maybe I am in a difficult position to make such a claim based on experience. I have called them out twice. The first time was at 5am with a failed alternator, the second time was at 4.30am with a burst heater hose. At this time in the morning, they are not really in a position to do much at the side of a busy dual carriageway. I was glad that they didn't repair it as I had a spare alternator at work and some heater hose, so the repair cost nothing (other than some fresh anti-freeze) Had they fitted new parts at the side of the road, I would have had to pay a lot more for the parts.
We are with Mayday and added our daughter to our policy as she has a rubbish old car and drives to college 20 miles from home. During the very cold spell, the car failed to start when she was leaving for home, the operative arrived within 15 minutes and then spent the next 30 minutes getting the darned thing to start. Once started he then followed her to the motorway, about 15 minutes away just to check car was okay. Great service and worth every penny.

Yes!
Also I have had a Citroen Recovered by the AA because they didn't attempt to fix citroens, It could have been fixed at the roadside. As stated before Mayday is basically thr CC's branding for Green flag but we have been happy with the service after calling them out both while towing and solo
The rescue service we were with before May Day were very good at fixing most problems at the side of the road if they could, I think they same garages that Green Flag use through possibly the same call centre as May Day do, they sorted many problems (blown fuses, not starting, DS locking us out of tow car at service station to name a few!) just the same as our previous experience of the AA (though that was last about 18 yrs ago!). Though things like clutch and a broken wishbone they towed us in to our garage, but I can't see the AA sorting them at the roadside either! The only reason we moved from our previous rescue service was because they didn’t cover our caravan length if we needed rescuing.
Whichever company you are with for recovery/roadside assistance, I think it depends on who actually turns up to help. We have been with RAC and Mayday (Green Flag) and have found little difference with the degree of roadside help. The advantage of Mayday is: it's cheaper; double journey cover if you are towing a van to a pre-booked site; if you are towing it, Mayday will recover it - there are restrictions with RAC & AA. With Mayday/Green Flag, as far as I am aware they are all independant garages that come out - Green Flag do not have their 'own patrols'. Some may argue you might get better service from the independant garages.
Thank you for your help and advise, it's difficult decision, even if Green Flag take you to a garage your car can be out of action for a few days, whereas if it's just brake pads got locked on for instance, AA will change them at the roadside, (if they have the correct ones of course) and you can continue on your journey, because even if they tow you to site, you will still be without a car until a garage repairs it.
