we have our insurance settlement for our swift and while the funds are clearing we have started looking at vans again. We went to see a fleetwood countryside tonight and it looked really nice.

However I was a little concerned though that there wasnt much room between the tyres and the wheel arch. Now maybe im being mega sensitive with tyres after what happened last month, but Im thinking if the gap isnt that big(i could barely fit my hand between them) then if I go over a bump or pothole then the arch is going to come into contact with the tyre.

Can anyone confirm if this gap is par for the course with these vans or should there be more of a gap present.

Also can anyone tell me what else I should be looking for in the fleetwood.

cheers all

If you are a member of the CC you could check with their technical dept? Its difficult to see on ours as its covered over but ours is aprox 1" or 2 " not as much I had thought. If that helps.

Just out of curiosity did you have Tyron bands on your tire when it blew? and did the insurance say if this had helped or would have helped. Having looked at your previous post it looked very scary.

Hi  F-B    My Countryside 500 is fitted standard 175/13 Tyres and there is very little gap maybe 1/2'' if that. If you go over a bump pothole it dose not alter the top of the tyre it only affects the bottam,  We do a lot off CLs + THS and never had any problems.  The only problem we have is with the oven door hinges they keep slaking off + the catch on the door dose not hold while travailing on the road, Remedy a Elesticated strap to hold it in place.

suspension on a caravan is very different to a car. Its all to do with triangular rubber. And my old fleetwood only had a small gap and never bottomed out.

we hesitated too long for that van.someone else came in and bought it while we were thinking about it.
wasnt meant to be I guess.
no regrets though would rather take my time over this van than rush in and buy the first we see

Fife bloke i'm really pleased that you are going to carry on caravanning :)  You are being sensible in taking your time on choosing and not rushing in.  Your 'van is out there just waiting for you to find her :)

Keep us updated on your progress...

Fantastic news, we were keeping our fingers crossed you'd get something soon. Had a look at where we keep our van as one's for sale opposite us, but I had a closer look and would recommed it to no one!!
You'll be planning weekend away then? Hope everything goes to plan, with all the bad luck you've had lately you deserve some good!
Nicky
