hello all, just a quick note about the truma 30 bar gas regulator, at the weekend we were in our van in devon ( eldiss avante 2009 model), when our gas stopped flowing to the cooker, we thought that we had run out of gas but thought it was strange as we had only changed the bottle on our last trip, after a few hours of scratching heads and stripping down pipes my last option was to call the supplier, who informed me that the flange inside the regulator had stuck shut and we would need a new one and low and behold this was not covered by the warrenty. on contacting a few local shops in the devon area we finally found a supplier some 20 miles away, on arrival they told me that truma were not accepting liability for the problem, what the shop said is that the pressure from the gas bottle is shooting rubber from the pipe into the flange thus sticking, as we have had  our van for 18 months it looked like we would have to change it on a regular occurance, the shop owner informed me there is a quick fix, if you buy a metal pipe this appears to stop the problem so in all it was £40 for the regulator and £32 for the pipe so will have to see if this fixes the problem. so if anyone has a truma 30bar regulator fixed to the van with a yellow sticker on the front please be aware.........

It happened to us, at that time they were changing the regulators under warranty, but I understand its quite likely to happen again at some point so we take an alternative source of cooking with us now, usually a meths stove and a charcoal BBQ!

We too have been told about getting the metal pipe but were advised to wait until we needed a new regulator and get the two together as it works out cheaper, not Trauma but another make which I can’t remember at the moment.

Not sure if we have the same problem here, but my wife has complained that the cooker in our 2009 Avanté is not powerful enough and that gas mark 6 is not anything like gas mark 6 at home. This is our first van so we can't compare to a previous caravan cooker, but it does take a long time to cook things compared to the cooker at home. Is this just the case with caravan cookers or could it be a regulator fault too. BTW the gas heater and hob fire up ok.
Thanks
Mike

We have always found that everything takes longer in the caravan oven . We did put an oven thermometer in the last caravan oven and it was coming up to temperature just still took a long time, but its worth checking in case its the regulator. When ours went it was as if there was low gas in the bottle to start with.

..........who informed me that the flange inside the regulator had stuck shut

No, it's not a flange it's a rubber diaphragm

.......they told me that truma were not accepting liability for the problem

This bits true...with good reason though as it's not their fault

......what the shop said is that the pressure from the gas bottle is shooting rubber from the pipe into the flange thus sticking,

Utter rubbish! it's an oily substance and present in the bottle, hence not the regulator or Truma's fault

.........if you buy a metal pipe this appears to stop the problem so in all it was £40 for the regulator and £32 for the pipe so will have to see if this fixes the problem.

Tosh! but profitable?, forget the steel hose but you could though buy a 'Clesse' 30mb bulkhead regulator from 'bes.co.uk', this allows the 'oil' to pass through and not harm the regulator itself, however that's not to say the oil cannot cause more damage further down the line?

This is my opinion of course, based on the simple fact the 'oil' has always been present and long before the regulator problem showed it up
