Hi UKCS members. I have searched for an answer to this question on the forum, but to no avail. I apologise if it is in a different area.
My caravan (Burstner Belcanto 2006), and some others i have seen, have an awning rail on the rear of the caravan, above the window hinge.
Is this rail for some form of awning?
I have an RV1 Oztent that would be great for any time that i wanted more space than the Bradcot sport awning can provide (Like the annual France raid - 73 days to go )
I've not ever witnessed this kind of set up being used, but i am new to the caravan thing (7 months). What are your thoughts?

Just a thought, but when on Holiday in France a couple of years ago I noticed a lot the german and french vans had a sunshade type thing fixed over the windows and propped out on supports (not whilst towing obviously),
probably next to usless in this country

If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.

It's an interesting idea. I suppose any small porch awning could be added to the back of the 'van to give extra covered storage, or as a shady spot or somewhere out of the wind to sit when the sun moves round.
As our washroom is at the back of our van, a rear awning would also provide more privacy - no need to pull the blind on the window (and why isn't the 'glass' in caravan bathroom windows occluded?).

Bit mystified about this, if by occluded you mean "frosted" or obscured surely most van washroom windows are. Certainly all the vans we have had, even in the days of real glass, have been.

Some older British Caravans had this type of rail fitted across the back and the rear window was slid into place along this rail and hinged there. It was then held in place by a screw at each end. Very insecure idea but fairly standard at the time.
The same awning rail can be used today to attach a driveaway awning.
I use such a beastie with my caravan but I have cut away the awning rail edging on the tunnel and sewn 50mm Loop to the tunnel edge. This attaches to a 50mm Hook that is stuck to the rear of the van by double sided carpet tape.
I have 2 awnings (one large, one small) that both attach at the same point.

I'm afraid not. Our's, like many others, are just plain 'glass'. Don't know why.

How odd, you learn something new every day. I wonder if it's a cost cutting exercise? Still, I suppose one could admire the view whilst sitting on the "throne". Whatever, it gives a whole new perspective to "a room with a view" or should that be a view of the room?

That's why I'm selling an opaque Bailey Champagne Series V bathroom window on Fleabay.
