Just a thought, but when on Holiday in France a couple of years ago I noticed a lot the german and french vans had a sunshade type thing fixed over the windows and propped out on supports (not whilst towing obviously),

probably next to usless in this country

They are found on both the back and front of some continental vans.

      Bit mystified about this, if by occluded you mean "frosted" or obscured surely most van washroom windows are. Certainly all the vans we have had, even in the days of real glass, have been.

Some older British Caravans had this type of rail fitted across the back and the rear window was slid into place along this rail and hinged there. It was then held in place by a screw at each end. Very insecure idea but fairly standard at the time.

The same awning rail can be used today to attach a driveaway awning.

I use such a beastie with my caravan but I have cut away the awning rail edging on the tunnel and sewn 50mm Loop to the tunnel edge. This attaches to a 50mm Hook that is stuck to the rear of the van by double sided carpet tape.

I have 2 awnings (one large, one small) that both attach at the same point.

           How odd, you learn something new every day. I wonder if it's a cost cutting exercise? Still, I suppose one could admire the view whilst sitting on the "throne". Whatever, it gives a whole new perspective to "a room with a view" or should that be a view of the room?
